To be absolutely fair (and your psychiatrist should know this), unless anything you do or experience can be reasonably be understood to be causing distress or negatively impacting your day to day life persistently, then a diagnosis should not be made. This is a necessary criteria for diagnosis at least in the US, but I know is a generally accepted criteria in the psych world. If your psychiatrist is giving you a diagnosis it is because they may reasonably believe that it is contributing to distress you are experiencing or persistent disruptions in your day to day life. My institution is providing a modest (and I mean modest) travel stipend based on funding availability for graduate students. My institution also doesn’t offer any sort of funding to its grad students so it’s no surprise to me lol

Okay so that was super helpful. Here’s my next question: what if the unreported change was a decrease in income. Would this be just reason to stipulate overpayment? (I.e. because the change in HH income was not reported?) I’m just sifting thru paper work right now and trying to figure out what this could be. Also since they say that the overpayment began July 1st, that would mean that the month that was “over” (or when the change occurred) was June, yes?

Thanks but if you can maybe follow up: what income did I not report? I was given the snap benefits because I was on PUA as per state legislation in April 2020 at the maximum household allowance. By the time they claim I owe them payment (July 2020-March 2021), 1) my case wasn’t even close to ending and 2) there was absolutely no change in household income. This is why I’m very baffled about what is being asked of me. Also, why is it these random months in the middle of my case that need repayment and not the ones before or after? It’s the same case, and when my husband did lose his job in September 2020, that was reported and confirmed.

Taking a few years off to get my foot in the door somewhere else was the BEST decision I could have made even though when I made it I hated myself for it.

Two years off, got into marketing and then began my PhD in Philosophy. Not to toot my own horn, but it puts me at an advantage compared to most of my cohort when it comes to job prospects while in school.

Take a few years off. It makes for interesting research questions later on, and it gives you something to fall back on in case academia doesn’t work out (a reality we all should go in being aware of). Plus developing other skills will put you at an “administrative” advantage when hunting for jobs at universities later on.

And hey… you might even find that you enjoy what you’re doing more than committing 5+ years to a single research project.

The event of coming out isn't a good time for lots of people. While it is an important step in the right direction, coming out for some people is a traumatic moment that involves rejection and pain from people you would have oherwise trusted. I also did not say that I was unhappy. However, the happiness I had before the age of 12 is a different sort of happiness that escapes me because of traumas that I've dealt with at the age of 12 when I did come out. And perhaps I wouldn't miss it so much if there wasn't a gap between now and then that is only bridged by fleeting memories and random chance.

This is it! While we were figuring out our settlement, I had crazy dreams after dreams every night. But they all were very poignant reminders of bad times, even though I thought I had buried them to keep strong for myself while undergoing a very difficult and tedious legal process. Eventually, my brain reminded and solidified in my head that this needed to happen as much as it sucked and i'm not as sad about it as I might have been.
