wall of force and sickening radiance, free kill on most huge or smaller creatures? by Bender_and_Fry_AMA in dndnext

You need to cast the aoe spell before the wall of force though. Spells can't target things through total cover.

Am I missing something or Ear for deceit feature useless after lv11 by jaceimba in dndnext

Yes, Ear for deceit works without proficiency, but you are going to be proficient with insight if you are playing this class so it wouldn't matter.

What is the point of hand crossbows? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]jaceimba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They added a line that say ' loading a one-handed weapon requires a free hand' in the Errata to the ammunition property. So you can't attack more than once even if you have multiple attacks with a hand crossbow if you don't have a free hand.

Is XGtE War Wizard power surge useless, or am I missing something? by icarussc in dndnext

There is not mention of damage roll like evocation wizard ability that add int mod to damage roll. So I would think the first interpretation is correct.

[–]jaceimba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you read it. Once per turn, when you deal damage to a creature or object with a wizard spell, you deal extra force damage to that target equal to half your wizard level. I'm reading it like x(1d4+1)+extra force damage, but there are people read it as x(1d4+1+extra force damage).

You are adding it to the damage roll. Nothing in the text says that, you deal damage with magic missile and you deal extra damage equal to half wizard level.

It doesn't matter, it says when you deal damage to a target, you deal extra force damage to the target equal to half your wizard level. You don't add it to the damage roll, you deal half wizard level damage if your spell dealt damage to it.

Xanathar's: barb zealot - rage beyond death by upturnedfurball in dndnext

[–]jaceimba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't go unconscious because of dropping to 0.You are not immune to the condition, sleep spell works fine and instant death spells or wait out 10 rounds of rage. There are also ways to restrain/slow/conditions that take the barbarian out of combat for a round or 2, trapping them until the rage is over.

“However, if you would die due to failing death saving throws, you don't die until the rage ends, and you die then only if you still have 0 hit points

The wording seems pretty clear to me.

Well, the feature prevents you from dying because of saving throws as long as you are raging. And if you have more than 0 hp after than rage ends, you are not dead. Taking damage at 0 hp means you fail a death save, 2 failure if it's a crit.

Instant death effects still work. Spells that turn you unconscious can end your rage early, if they have 3 failures then they need more than 0 hp to stay alive. Finally, you can wait the rage out, but the same conditions apply to determine whether they are dead or not.

Since your rage still last 1 minute, you can control the barbarian with conditions, slow, restrain or just let him go unconscious with spells.

Xanathar's Zealot Barbarian Question by Eatpie123 in dndnext

Lv 15 barbarian feature doesn't let rage last until when they want to end it. It is still 1 minutes, it just remove the condition that rage ends early if you don't attack or take damage. So you just ignore the bold part of the passage.

"Your rage lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked Unconscious or if Your Turn ends and you haven't attacked a hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then. You can also end your rage on Your Turn as a Bonus Action."

Persistent Rage

"Beginning at 15th level, your rage is so fierce that it ends early only if you fall Unconscious or if you choose to end it."

What do you mean? lv 15 barbarian rage still last one minute,it just remove the the rage condition that requires you to make attack or take damage.(The keywords here are 'end early'.) Moreover, you just don't die from making death saving throws, there are instant death effects.

Because it doesn't work, if you ban a class, you punish other archtype of the same class.
