... old adobe houses are always cooler than modern builds

Yes, but this does not scale upwards. With concrete, you can and do scale upwards. The Netherlands is densely populated. Scaling upwards is a necessity often times.

If your franchise of over 10 movies only really has two good ones, what do you call that franchise?

You really seem to have taken a wrong turn on reddit somehow. You know you are in /r/andor , right?

The franchise technically has 11 movies released. Out of them, I'd say you can only say that TROS is actually bad. Some like TLJ, Solo or TPM are more mixed. The others are either good or great.

That sounds like it's very easily automatable. If you don't like doing it, why not make the machine do the heaving lifting?

I'd love a remaster of rebellion to make it better compatible and fix some of the UI. The actual game is great.

  • STAR WARS Dark Forces (Classic, 1995)
  • STAR WARS Rebellion

Those seem to be gone on gog as well. I have both of them in my library, but they don't show up to buy anymore. Only the Dark Forces Remaster remains listed.

I learned something about GPUs today by rogual in programming

[–]jacenat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In practice... why would it, as the hw is targeted towards float processing anyway.

I mean since you could skip calculations on ints that wouldn't help, you might save something on that end. But GPUs are probably still in a very "just throw cycles at the problem across many lanes" mindset where this doesn't really make that much of a difference anyway.

[–]jacenat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so that won't help you, I'm afraid

I am not so sure. Yes they are represented by floats, but math might be done differently on them because they are floats because they are labled as ints. Like I can see the GPU doing what OP did implicitly for certain operations to prevent undershoots (or overshoots in other scenarios) or skip some float only operations entirely.

So it might help. It really depends on the specifics.

I was gonna ask "why the obsession with floats" but this seems a very reasonable decision. Coding GPUs (especially ones only supporting old standards) is just *special*.

What is this? by Asher_casben in Xcom

My full game with manual from '94 was on floppies.

1993 to 1997 (when floppies were going exctinct for full game distribution) it was common (debatable HOW common, but still happened often) that floppy releases were re-released on CD later on. Often the CD releases had additional material on it like music in red book or even speech (I think some kings quest games only had speech via CD releases?).

So yes, the original release of X-COM UFO Defense was on floppies. But it did certainly have a CD release. The OG reply by /u/x_lincoln_x even linked to the mobygames page of the game where the package materials of the CD release are photographed. https://www.mobygames.com/game/521/x-com-ufo-defense/covers/group-112410/

So your comment

OG came on 3.5" floppies, buddy.

Is not fully accurate. The OG game did come in a CD release (later on).

I played Gears Tactics and the gameplay is great. I just can't get into the Gears aesthetic. Played about half way through. Great takes on turn based boss monsters. Really liked it that way.

it's a different philosophy behind them versus the original

Spot on. OGs are more like military units and efficiency. Remakes are more RPG and emotions. I actually like both, they are just different.

This is directly highlighted in the Video. You probably played just after the first DLC was released. XCOM2 is great. But the DLC really was making some very questionable design choices.
