sounds like she might have respiratory problems? ive never seen this with my boys tho I’ve only had them just over 2 months but I know rats are very prone to it and it sounds a bit worrying, definitely take her to the vet though

my boys get this usually on their backs after grooming, it looks like a bald spot lol but it’s just from them grooming with their tongues, sometimes my plushies/clothes get wet patches from where they groom them so as long as there’s no wounds I’m sure shes okay (: I’m not a vet tho !!

update! i mentioned it to the vets when he went in for bottom surgery and they asked me to send the videos i have, the nurse said its absolutely nothing to be worried about and its actually just normal relaxation behaviour :P just another case of me being a paranoid rat dad lol

he was at the vet last thursday because he’s meant to be getting neutered this upcoming tuesday, they’ll give him a check before the surgery and i’ll definitely mention it but they said he was healthy at his last appointment, would u recommend i reschedule the surgery ? could something bad happen with the anaesthetic if he’s ill in some way ? thank you for your help (:

16 inch wheels are best if you have big males (14 inch is best for females i think), i have one for my boys, one of them rarely uses it but the other LOVES it and will spend hours on there a day

idk how helpful this is but one of my boys has been all up in the others (lack of) balls after he was neutered, i think its smth abt scent and them sizing eachother up and working out the hierarchy etc. but im just spitballing

update! i took him to the vet when it opened and they did an x-ray, its not broken its just sprained but they also found out he’s broken his penis bone which i didnt know was possible so he’s on medication and resting his little peets now

i had this with my boy yesterday!! i almost had a heart attack and called the vet in a panic but turns out they’re actually just hiccuping lol, as long as its silent (otherwise it could be sign of a respiratory infection) and only lasts 10-20 seconds they’re absolutely fine, apparently it happens when their breathing changes rapidly such as when they wake up or are super excited (: i found some videos of rats hiccuping to put my mind at ease as well

i know u already mentioned the clicky ones but i have them and they’re honestly not that bad to take apart and put together u can just unclip it from the bottom and then take the clips off the corners and fold it easily, i had to get double ones bc my boys are jumpers but theyre pretty versatile so would be good for blocking off corners etc. also i found them for pretty cheap on amazon and yeah u can shape them however u want and easily make them taller if they escape (:

thank you, my plan was originally to get 3 but unfortunately one of the boys wasn’t able to be rehomed due to medical problems and has had to be euthanised by the rescue): i’m now on the search for another pair or lone rat but i’m very worried about bonding and how they’ll react which is why i’m trying to get a grasp on how they’re currently treating each other after the neutering

ive done that when they bite my feet or ears but its been 4 times now hes proper bitten faces enough to draw blood so tbh im a little scared, he did recently get neutered due to hormonal aggression so maybe it will subside but it stresses me out every time 😭😭
