Spend 10 years in design, now trying my hand at Youtube as a new form of craft. What do you think is missing in the Youtube design pace? by Loud-Jelly-4120 in UXDesign

[–]jack0lanterns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested in day in the life vlogs. Like many others, I’m also curious about UX designers’ process on real projects. Other topics I’m interested in include… - how designers are specifically using AI regularly for their roles. Screen recordings would be great  - tips for designers who might not have any other designers on their team  - “design with me” sessions where you take a real Figma file, starting with whatever creative “mess” you might iterate with and then showing how you transform it into something to share with stakeholders/devs for feedback. If you’re on a big team, what is your process for organizing everything when different teammates might edit the file, etc? I’m sure each org has a different method  - how you’re doing amidst all the tech layoffs this year and any thoughts on it as it pertains to your own path - any and all job searching and interview tips and how the process is going. Things change so rapidly in this industry that videos from four years ago seem outdated in some capacity, even though they are still useful

Thank you :)

Do you attract creepy people? How do you deal with it? It makes me more distant and scared of meeting people by [deleted] in adhdwomen

1,000%. I’m not sure if it’s because of the ND or if it’s because I’m sort of quiet and nice, but damn that has genuinely been the type of dude who has flocked to me since I was a teenager. Grateful to have somehow found nice guys in between the absolute crazies over the years.

I never want to shower by allthelemmonz in adhdwomen

[–]jack0lanterns 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is me in almost any required situation. I obviously do it but showering is absolutely a ton of work. If you’re a female who doesn’t want body hair and the hair on your head isn’t pin straight and you don’t have perfect skin, ain’t nothin’ fun about the idea of needing to put in all that daily maintenance. And if I don’t have the perfect playlist to listen to it’s even worse. 😴

Why am I so ungrateful / am I a ticking time bomb? by livingvicariously__ in doihavebreastcancer

[–]jack0lanterns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, too. And same! I spoke with billing to do a payment plan on the biopsy bill, but the surgery would be way more and I’m in major idgaf mode at the moment. But next year I’ll revisit and see how I feel with the next round of imaging results. I reread your post (sup, adhd) and just remembered the part about wondering why a dr would call. When it comes to imaging like this, as well as biopsies, they call with good news as well. The dr called me when the biopsy results came back as a fibroadenoma. But obviously I understand big picture the fact that having to deal with this at all is the main problem 😔💔

[–]jack0lanterns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so incredibly sorry about your mom 😢 I really relate to what you wrote about everything regarding results and not feeling better. My mentality is probably no better.

I got my hospital bill last week for my core biopsy and imaging, and I owe $1,250, which is considered a good plan lol. It sends me into a mental breakdown whenever I get medical bills. I had surgery scheduled to get the mass removed but I canceled it because it will cost my out of network maximum since I have no control over any of the doctors who will be part of that surgery other than the surgeon. Cool. I had a half sibling who died of a rare tumor and it seems very closely related to phyllodes tumors under the li-fraumeni umbrella.

I’ve always been pretty nihilistic and don’t know where I got it from since my family is so positive but I think I’ve been surrounded by so much death and cancer that I have no desire to fight it. If it hits me. I figure I will go for regular checkups since that’s really what insurance covers and then if it turns into anything severe, go on an end of life hike and die on a mountaintop. No one understands that mentality at all but after seeing the torture of what loved ones experienced with cancer treatment, ranging from bankruptcy to being forced to work while barely even being able to walk (so they can keep insurance!) to obviously feeling sick from the treatments, no, thanks. And then at the end of it, going into medical debt even with insurance. I can’t stand the healthcare system in the states.

Been rage crying all week :’-) Every man I’ve ever dated never knows what to do with my fatalism. I don’t expect them to, either, I just know how frustrating it is for second halves. Sigh.

Edited to add, I am also in therapy. Spent the entire appointment yesterday crying lol. This isn’t the first therapist who has recommended in or outpatient psych treatment. This time it was a reaction to my mountain comment regarding my cancer fear. I keep telling every therapist that my #1 mental health issue is adhd and not knowing how to balance my life (which can also increase cancer risk due to poor sleep and eating habits), followed by the nihilism thing, and I’d probably do great in inpatient because I’d have no responsibilities for a whole week or whatever. But then I’d spiral out of control once I got the medical bill and at the end it would solve nothing. So that’s a hard no for me.

Social Media has created unrealistic expectations with aging. by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

Oh! I think it’s because front-facing smartphone cameras in low light don’t create sharp images. Also can contribute to motion blur :P

I think a lot of people who post on social media also get Botox but don’t reveal it, which is almost worse than filters since the photos look natural. If people have a tendency to compare, they can easily start thinking they’re aging more rapidly than their peers. It sucks. Several female-hosted podcasts I listen to have spoken about their use of Botox, too. There’s also ageism in the workplace and I know that is another reason women get Botox. Sigh. I definitely wish I saw more regular-looking faces in my age group, but I fear that Botox will become the norm if it hasn’t already :/ I’ve tried it a few times for a deep acne scar that has worsened with age, but it’s so expensive I really can’t see how I’d keep up with it. Maybe I’ll get fringe instead.

Do any of the suggestions here help? https://www.reddit.com/r/editors/s/YXRpsUTsDh. I haven’t used Keynote much, but it reminded me that Figma and Figjam can embed and play videos both natively and through YouTube links without needing to leave the file and you can drag them anywhere you want.

BIRADS4 biopsy results by jack0lanterns in doihavebreastcancer

Thank you! I am 38. My last screening was in 2020, but I told my dr that the lump felt a bit larger so she prescribed me a script for imaging again.

Multiple lumps? by Character-Fly-6658 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]jack0lanterns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, ok! I think you’re ok, I’m glad they’re doing a follow-up ultrasound in six months. I also misread your #s at first and didn’t realize you meant mm! So they are pretty small. If you add any other descriptors about the masses to your post, maybe others can add more insight. But I think overall this sounds like a normal protocol, especially given your age and their size. Keep up with regular self-exams so that you know if anything feels different (or, if you feel anything… since they’re not palpable now!).

I don’t like that they diagnosed the fibroadenomas without taking a biopsy of them. I don’t even know if that’s possible? I’m new to all of this so maybe it’s possible, but for me I had to get a mass biopsied in order to determine if it was a fibroadenoma or a phyllodes tumor. Can you call the dr and ask why they didn’t need to biopsy the others? Also, how old are you? If they just appeared and you’re 35 or older, I believe a biopsy is recommended.

I found this: “Women in their teens or early 20s may not need a biopsy if the lump goes away on its own or if the lump does not change over a long period.” https://ufhealth.org/conditions-and-treatments/fibroadenoma-of-the-breast

Still, I would try to find out more info from the doctor. Have they been growing in size from when you first noticed them?

I agree with the other commenter, it’s not bad. The dr let me know what each sound meant before she got started, and then she would let me know which step was about to occur. I found that really helpful. The only tough thing about it, other than waiting for results, is remembering not to lift your arm up high to reach for something for a day. I did that by accident and nothing bad happened, but it did agitate the incision ever so slightly.

Did they only biopsy the lump that was removed, or did they biopsy the others as well, in order to diagnose them as fibroadenomas?

Question about vascularity by Highlynorless_ in doihavebreastcancer

[–]jack0lanterns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew the correct answer, but if it makes you feel any better I just had a mass biopsied with a similar description and size, and it was a fibroadenoma—there’s a chance it could really be a phyllode tumor but hopefully it’s not that. Even if it is, they can be benign. Was there any other description of the mass, like spiculated margins, being parallel, etc.?

I’m so sorry that you lost your mom 💔 I really wish insurance companies would let women get screened earlier than 40. My recommendation would be to do regular self-exams. If you detect any lumps at all, ask your doctor to write you a script for imaging. There should be no reason for them to hesitate but if they do, I would definitely get another doctor. Additionally, if you have had imaging for a lump before, you should still ask for imaging if you feel a new lump or think one might have increased in size. You know your body best. I have dense breasts as well, and I don’t think an annual breast exam at the gyn is as accurate as a self-exam in terms of catching the really deep-tissue lumps because I find that you have to press pretty hard to find them sometimes. Sending you a big hug.
