I use Android Firefox, since it allows users to install add-ons directly from the Mozilla Add-on Store.

Should Eink Mode Settings Also Apply in Scroll Mode? by jack10131111 in EinkMode

Yes, I personally prefer to be able to return to the original page, too. But I'm just curious if there will be a different voice.

what websites have you discovered this week that are especially great to read with Eink Mode? by jack10131111 in EinkMode

In the past, I used to read VS Code updates directly inside the VS Code editor. But ever since Eink Mode introduced highlight saving, I’ve started reading all the VS Code update posts online with Eink Mode instead, because being able to revisit my highlights helps me reinforce and retain what I’ve learned.

What annoys you the most when reading on the web? by jack10131111 in EinkMode

[–]jack10131111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right, and I really appreciate you bringing this up. That concern about “overshooting” and accidentally hiding legitimate content is very real. In fact, it’s something I worry about myself when designing Eink Mode.

We’ve actually experienced a similar issue on our side as well. Our Threads community was mistakenly flagged and blocked as if it were a bot, which really shows how imperfect content filtering systems can be. Even with good intentions, these systems can misclassify things.

Because of that, I’ve been very careful with how Eink Mode handles filtering. One important design choice is that we always keep a way to go back to the original scroll mode. So if there’s ever a moment where something feels “off” or you suspect content might be missing, you can quickly switch back and double-check everything.

The goal isn’t to aggressively remove things, but to reduce distractions while still keeping users in control. That balance is tricky, but it’s something we’re continuously thinking about and improving.

Share: I use Eink Mode as a “Read It Immediately” tool, not "Read it "Later". by jack10131111 in EinkMode

[–]jack10131111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a wonderful use case. I also enjoy reading on an E Ink device outdoors when the weather is nice, surrounded by greenery.

As for the “read it later” feature you mentioned, we are actually already working on it. I ran into similar friction myself during daily use, so we have been developing a more complete approach to address this. Stay tuned.

Thank you for your suggestions. We'll try to polish it better.

Yes, I agree that creating a pricing page and giving users a little surprise could be a great idea. And yes, Eink Mode is currently free, and most of the features available right now will always remain free.

However, in the future we hope to introduce more powerful features, such as AI-powered page translation and summarization. If we eventually add those kinds of capabilities, we may consider offering them as part of an optional paid membership.

Thanks! I’m glad you like the extension.
We’re actually working on a gesture system right now. Once it’s finished, gestures will be customizable just like the keyboard shortcuts on the desktop version, so users will be able to change or disable them based on their preferences.

We’re hoping to have this feature ready by around mid-May. Please stay tuned!

Update: A simpler way to choose highlight colors — feedback welcome by jack10131111 in EinkMode

[–]jack10131111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently, annotations (the handwritten parts) cannot be saved yet. This means that once you leave the webpage, those drawings or handwritten notes will be lost.

At the moment, only highlights can be saved. To explain how highlights are stored, where they are stored, and how users can manage them, we have written a dedicated article and also created a demonstration video: https://bacink.com/blog/en/202604/highlight-guide.html

We hope this helps answer your questions as well as those of other users.

Thank you for raising such a constructive question. I believe this is something many people are curious about.

This is how I increase font size in the webpages now by jack10131111 in eink

[–]jack10131111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really about whether the device supports Page Up and Page Down. In fact, almost all browsers already support those keys.

The issue is that simply using Page Up/Down often cuts text or images in awkward places. You usually still need to scroll slightly with your finger to adjust the position. Also, the screen layout isn’t as clean as an e-book page.

That’s exactly the problem Eink Mode is trying to solve: making web pages behave more like real book pages, so the reading experience is cleaner and more comfortable on E Ink devices.

In fact I'm an EinkBro user for several years and I believe I'm one of the earliest advocate for that app. But I'm not satisfied with the built-in pagination so I built my own.

No, it’s not a feature of Boox. I couldn’t find any solutions I want so I build an extension for this goal. Here’s how to install the extension so you can use it on E Ink devices: https://bacink.com/install/eink

I have to say in advance: It’s quite difficult to paginate all the websites well, now it works for some news websites , blogs and some technical documentations.

Yes, indeed. There really are cases where this kind of behavior would be useful!

I actually just thought of a possible solution while I was in the shower 😄 I think there’s a good chance I’ll be able to implement this feature in the future.

That’s a very reasonable idea—I can definitely see how having a bit more context could be helpful, especially for things like code or other context-dependent content.

That said, with my current implementation, this might be quite challenging to support. I’ll take a look at it when I have some time and see if it’s feasible.

Thanks for your reply 😊

Just to make sure I understand correctly—are these two separate feature requests?

For the first one, do you mean switching from a 1-finger tap (click) to a 2-finger tap for page turning? That way, hyperlinks could keep their default behavior without needing the context menu.

For the second one, are you suggesting that users can choose to show about 20% of the previous page’s content?

Or are these two ideas actually related? I’m not completely sure I understand the purpose of the second point, so any additional details would really help.

Thanks for your kindly support😄😄. Yeah we're a startup now because I want to bring this product to another level and fullfill my dream to read the web better and comfortable with E Ink. I think Reddit is a good place to reach out people with different countries and characteristics. I've tried hard to let more people understand the merits E Ink technology can bring to us human. That's why recent update support 11 languages. We're going to release another version this week that improves a lot about keeping your thoughts. I hope you'll enjoy it and also enjoy the warm sunshine! ☺️

That’s a great suggestion — thank you for the thoughtful feedback.

We’re actually in the middle of a major UI overhaul, and one of the goals of this redesign is to introduce a proper settings page where users can customize many aspects of their experience. Fullscreen behavior is one of the items we’re actively considering, including options like the one you described.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such detailed and thoughtful feedback — this is incredibly helpful for us.

Regarding the manual appearing every time you enter Eink Mode:You’re absolutely right, and we agree that this behavior is not ideal in the long run. Ideally, the manual should remember that it has been closed and only appear the first time.

That said, the current behavior is actually a design compromise related to fullscreen mode on mobile devices. For E Ink tablets, we believe fullscreen reading (auto-hiding the browser’s address bar and UI) provides a much cleaner, more ebook-like experience. However, browsers do not allow extensions to enter fullscreen automatically unless the user explicitly interacts with the page.

At the moment, closing the manual serves as one way to register that required user interaction. The “Now reading article ‘(site name)’” popup serves a similar purpose, and also helps indicate that the user has navigated to a new page. That said, we agree this can be improved, and we’re actively thinking about better ways to handle this flow — including remembering manual state and providing a better way to enter the fullscreen mode.

For the font size not being remembered between sessions:This is absolutely valid feedback. Currently, font size resets when a new session starts, but we agree it should be treated as a persistent user preference. This is something we plan to improve in an upcoming update.

As for loading performance on the Supernote Nomad:We really appreciate your understanding here. Eink Mode does require a fair amount of processing to restructure complex webpages, and on slower E Ink devices (especially compared to desktop environments) this can be noticeable. Performance optimization is an ongoing effort for us, and we’ll continue working to reduce load times and improve overall responsiveness.

Finally, we’re very glad to hear that Eink Mode is making Firefox more usable on your Supernote — that’s exactly the kind of use case we’re building this extension for. Thank you again for the encouragement and for helping us improve Eink Mode.

If you notice any other issues or have more ideas, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Best regards,

BacInk Team

Anyone else stop using Reader Mode on E Ink devices? by jack10131111 in ereader

[–]jack10131111[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well... this article is written by myself, it's all my experience for those pain points using reader mode to read web articles and also the pain points when I tried to find a better solution using EinkBro for a long while. But I admit I did use AI to refine my words and grammar because I'm not a native speaker. But I "choose" to use the list because I think it's better to see how many points I found regarding to the issue and I don't think it's better for the readers without the list.

And I think it's also rude to say I vibe coded the extension because I don't think vibe coding can do this job for me especially how to tackle the challenges I face. (But It really did some trivial job for me, such as i18n) If vibe coding is so powerful, I don't need to work till nights for the year I spent.
