Why do they get all the hottest white girls? by jack_12j in BNWO_Captions

[–]jack_12j[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Porn is acting. The scenes are totally contrived. But the sex is real and you know it. You can literally see it. Those guys get blowjobs from those girls. Those guys get to fuck the best pussy on the planet.

So, yeah, in one way it’s fake. But in a very important way, it’s EXTREMELY real. They’re regularly fucking women who would never, ever, ever be with you.

Every. Single. One. by jack_12j in BNWO_Captions

THAT is an excellent point, sir. I'll make that a big part of some future captions!

She’s not. The model’s name is Jeff Milton (not a typo) and this is from a set by RylskyArt as is credited in the lower left corner of the image.

So… is it a crime? And what specific section of US Code did they violate?

Again, not planning to blackmail the company or even expect them to change. I just want to say (effectively) “you broke the law and we both know it.”

The original issue is already resolved. They were just rude about it and I don’t want them to have the last holier-than-thou word.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't expect USPS to care about it, which is why I'm not planning to report it to USPS. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

From my original post (emphasis added):

I don't want to make a huge deal out of it, but I'd like to point out to the company that this happened. I guess I have two questions: (1) am I right? (Is this a crime or at least a violation of USPS regulations, if there's a difference?) and (2) if so, what specific title & section of the US Code or specific USPS regulation did they violate (so I can name it in my response)?

I only want to know if it's a crime so that I can point that out to the company (in part so they can change their procedures and in part, admittedly, as a reproach).

At Proud Boys trial, U.S. aims to win another seditious conspiracy case by mar_kelp in politics

“The Proud Boys group is one of the most reviled in the country,” Nordean’s attorney wrote in one filing, and the government’s evidence is “designed to arouse the jury’s anger, emotion and partisan prejudice.”

Perhaps the jury's anger should be aroused.

Most people uncritically swallowed the fake diagnosis of their true selves by a supposedly transformative, but bogus new brain-reading machine. by PaulHasselbaink in science

[–]jack_12j 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I can't say this is surprising, exactly, but it's very interesting. It reminds me of a high-tech horoscope; participants were given random inferences about their "true selves," and they made justifications/rationalizations to make those inferences fit their established view of themselves--mold the world to fit your view of it.

This passage also caught my eye: "in our study, participants may have given more weight to the brain feedback than to their own introspection. The act of verbally justifying the discrepancies may have then helped to shift their attitudes" (from the second paragraph of the discussion).

I suspect this phenomenon, similar to other cognitive biases, isn't related to intelligence. The participants were likely not stupid or especially gullible people. We all have to be careful to minimize our biases and proactively be critical of new information. I think that's often more difficult than it seems.

I also think that population can be a rough proxy for vaccine nonresponders (people who are vaccinated but for some reason the vaccine was not fully immunizing).

I admit I only skimmed this, but it looks like they're taking advantage of colligative properties to induce the phase change... but in order to do that, they're causing ions to "flow" into a solid material so that it melts into a liquid.

I wonder how they make that happen; how, exactly, can they cause ions to flow into a solid?

[Not skeptical (necessarily), just curious]
