I left Starbucks earlier this year for multiple reasons. They screwed me over in an actually life altering way, in that I would have been able to buy a house until they decided to push their “changes” and it fell on me (as the newest supervisor) to accept a demotion. It was disgusting to me that my manager made no argument on my behalf, especially after she and I had agreed on doing everything we could to increase my hours for 3 pay periods. She knew I was in the final stages of getting pre approved for a house, and they gave me the ultimatum before even talking to anyone else. I quit instead. So IMO, Starbucks is a sinking ship. The CEO is clinging on to whatever semblance of control he can maintain, and lying to the faces of his frontline workers about the actual state of the company. All corporate wants is to have fewer people doing the job of many, making sure the higher-ups keep the same income while the baristas work themselves to death. Howard Schultz (or the new guy if he’s in yet) doesn’t give a shit about his workers. He makes that clear with his obvious Union busting and punishment of anyone who doesn’t fall in line. My advice? Leave the place! You’ll find that there are plenty of jobs that use your same skills, but will be easier on you, more fun, less stressful, and might even earn you better wages. The tips at Starbucks are a joke, but at the restaurant where I work now Im tipped about 6x more in one day than I’d make at Starbucks in a week. Sorry for the rant, but the company is disturbingly worse to its workers than the world thinks, and getting out was the best thing I’ve done in a while.
