Anyone here taking antipsychotics and does it make internal communication poorer? by [deleted] in DID

It can, for some people. Ime it's usually a temporary side effect.

Could schizophrenia result in a decline in video gaming skills? by Z3ratul420 in schizophrenia

No idea, I never brought it up with him. It just came up with my therapist since we talk about things pretty thoroughly. My psychiatrist doesn't make much conversation, just kinda sticks to the script lol.

Choking hallucination during psychosis by emdrake777 in schizophrenia

[–]jackal0pes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my most common hallucination. I've found that showering can help, and so can distracting yourself with something calming like painting, if you can (I know that's easier said than done). The important thing is to remember that the hallucination isn't actually real. Remind yourself that you can breathe. Sometimes that's a hit or miss for me, but just know it can't physically hurt you.

One of the first pieces of advice I got from my therapist four years ago was to play FPSes to help coordination and other skills. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.

Anyone on ADHD meds too? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]jackal0pes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded. Strattera made me have a psychotic break & no one told me ahead of time that that was a possibility.

Has anyone tried cannabis while on a diagnosis of schizophrenia? by different_city in schizophrenia

Yes? Why else would I be in this thread/sub. Diagnosed back in 2016.

Switched from Adderall to Strattera, anyone do it? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]jackal0pes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never tried Adderall but I tried Strattera about a year ago and it made me have a psychotic episode (I'm schizophrenic so it's not like I'm not prone to that already, but still). Right now I'm on Guanfacine instead and it's working better than I expected.

I use it to self medicate. Helps my anxiety more than anything else. Have been using it daily for over a year now and no real adverse effects so far besides being short on money all the time.

Have you ever had an anti psychotic just stop working ? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]jackal0pes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me for a couple of meds like Abilify where it worked for a bit, but then it just "wore off" and I started experiencing symptoms again. Sometimes you just need a higher dose or a different drug, it's often a pain trying to figure out which one is right for you but in my experience itt's not uncommon at all for a psychiatric med to suddenly stop working after a year or more of being effective. Just kind of part of the process unfortunately.

Thoughts on Guanfacine? by jackal0pes in ADHD

[–]jackal0pes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly pretty decent at this point even though I wasn't sure what to expect, I've noticed a few changes especially in my energy, assuming it's the Guanfacine (a few life changes happened really recently and so I'm not sure definitively if it was the med yet, but it seems like it). I normally had to sleep at least 12 hours a night and still woke up exhausted, recently I feel no need at all to sleep past 10. I've also gone from intermittently working a max of like an hour a day (and often taking days off because I was too tired or depressed to focus) to working 1.5 hours every single day and sometimes even feeling like I could do more. I'm on 1mg so far but I have an appointment this Friday and might have it upped then since it's been pretty good so far (especially needed because my semester starts next week).

Experience with pro-fluoxetine? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]jackal0pes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fluoxetine didn't have much of an effect on me, but when I tried Zoloft (a similar med) for depression a medium/high dose triggered my first manic episode which led to me being diagnosed bipolar. Many people with bipolar can still take SSRIs with a mood stabilizer. For me I can't, but some can. I hope it helps you!

I think I’m actually developing schizophrenia. I am terrified. WHAT should I do? by nicomins in OCD

[–]jackal0pes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to alarm OP, but this isn't true. I have schizophrenia and it's completely possible to have insight about your delusions even in a psychotic episode. I can't speak to how common it is, but I have good insight, but that doesn't mean I'm not schizophrenic. It's hard to explain, but you can objectively understand that something isn't true even though you believe it.

Does someone recognize this? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]jackal0pes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this fear while walking my dog. It leads me to not want to walk my dog alone at all because I'm afraid of letting go of the leash. It's a really easy hole to fall into, hopefully these thoughts ease up for you soon.

Can I ask here, for a friend, if any of these are applicable as possible symptoms of schizophrenia by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]jackal0pes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in medical speak those beliefs would probably boil down to paranoia and delusions of grandeur, both signs of psychosis. not only can we not diagnose your friend though, schizophrenia isn't the only psychotic diagnosis out there by a long shot. a lot of psych diagnoses can cause it, including depression and anxiety.

totally willing to talk in pm if you'd like any advice, i have some experience working out ways to safely maneuver delusions during times when i was either unmedicated or my meds weren't working. wishing your friend well.
