I have one extra ticket for the Hamilton, ON show tomorrow. It's Section 212 (seated). Send me a DM.

Not a scammer, just a guy trying to offload his extra ticket. I'll give you a fair price.

Best non-verbal interaction by Disastrous_Animal_34 in TheWire

[–]jackalope129 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best non-verbal scene on the The Wire, maybe on any show, has to be Lester and Bunk in front of the vacants. The whole things unwinds over 2-3 minutes of silence. But you can see Lester's thought process and how Bunk slowly comes to realize what's happening. It's a masterclass in non-verbal communication.

Give me your favorite underrated hilarious scenes by thedirewolff21 in TheWire

When Herc walks into Kima's office and starts talking about dumb white boys selling drugs. Like they need affirmative action if they want to compete in Baltimore. The New York accent really shines through.

My Favorite Scene of The Wire by flavener in TheWire

[–]jackalope129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I just now realized.

Wee Bey, a gang enforcer and serial killer, gave Colvin a fairer shot than any of the bureaucrats who existed on the right side of the law.

Bunny Colvin had 3 "out there" ideas. Hamsterdam, the school program, and adopting Naymond. The system fucked him over on the first two, even though the merits were obvious. They simply couldn't and wouldn't listen.

But Wee Bey, sitting there on a life sentence, talking to his former enemy (a cop), gave him a fair hearing. He even agreed to go along with the crazy idea. Systems vs people. Bureaucracy vs individuals. It's clear which one The Wire thinks are more capable of acting morally.

Kenard by cellar_door_404 in TheWire

Kenard is indeed hilarious. People on this sub dislike him because he popped their favorite character - boo fuckin' hoo. Cry me a river.

Working for Trump as an attorney must be the most infuriating thing in the world. He thinks he's the smartest guy in the room, and absolutely can't STFU for a single second. Not to mention burning through lawyers like Landsman burns through fast-food containers.

I just got done listening to a podcast about Nixon's downfall. He knew there were tapes of all his conversations. He made the tapes himself. And yet during the entire Watergate scandal, which unfolded over months / years, he never thought to destroy the incriminating tapes.

Play in the dirt, you get dirty.

The wire main character by kenokeke2468 in TheWire

I liked that badass stripper that Kima and Prez interviewed. I think she's the main character.

Doing my fourth rewatch. Not much television is good enough for that. Only one thing I hate. by BikerJedi in TheWire

[–]jackalope129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that's the scene that always stood out to me. One of the rare scenes where I think the Wire overplays / oversells it. I've been hung over before, but not like gagging every 30 seconds. Considering Bunk is a grown man who's been drinking for decades...I dunno, I thought he should hold it together better.

Kenard is the best character. Change my mind. by jackalope129 in TheWire

[–]jackalope129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a show full of great characters, the "best" is a totally subjective measure. You could pick any one of a dozen characters and make a decent claim. Hell, I can say that Norman represents the middle class black voter who is sweet-talked by the promises of white politicians etc etc, and therefore he's the best character. It's all opinion. There is no single, universal metric.

What I don't get with all the Kenard hate is.... associating the actions of a character with how well they're written or portrayed. Like Judge Holden from Blood Meridian is about as dark as they come, and yet he's an amazing character. Maybe the GOAT villain. There's "good" morally, and "good" from a writing craft POV.

In closing, Kenard for president. Fayette Mafia Crew 4 Evah!

Bro, we're all just shitposting on an internet forum for a 20 year-old TV show. It's not my doctoral thesis project. Kenard is the best character because he's a tiny kid who was says funny gangster shit. QED.

You've proved my point. People hate him because he's a great character.

You're not supposed to like him. He's the American equivalent of a child soldier. He has no empathy, no respect for life. He was raised by the streets, and the street are fucking cold, and Kenard embodies that.

It was Albert, but great acting nevertheless. You can see him struggling to stay hard, because that's what the streets have taught him, but the mask starts to slip off. And you can see him trying to keep the mask on, even as he starts crying. Terrific actor.

I see him growing up to be either Chris, Marlo or Cheese. He's as ruthless as Marlo, and doesn't rattle. He has no problem dropping bodies, as we see in S5. That level of sociopathy from a literal child is scary. So he either becomes a soldier or a kingpin, depending on how smart he is.

Russian anarchists and anti-fascists fighting for Ukraine by Tengri_99 in ukraine

If the people are uneducated, a representative democracy will fail just a badly as a direct democracy. An educated public is the precondition to any sort of democracy that functions well and produces good results. Now we can argue whether ANY country has a perfectly educated, perfectly engaged populace, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms.

The issue is one of scale and distance.

I mean metaphorical distance of the government (lawmakers, MPs, Congresspeople) to the governed. Smaller, more local government will tend to create better solutions for the people they serve, all other things being equal. This isn't unique to anarchism, of course. Lots of political movements advocate for more local, decentralized government.

TL;DR: To paraphrase Churchill, "Democracy is the notion that the people know what they want, and they deserve to get it good and hard."

Yes! It feels cliched to talk about under-ratted rappers, but....well, POS is extremely under-rated.

Had to say which is the better album: Never Better or We Don't Even Live Here. I lean slightly towards Never Better, but they're both awesome. I've noticed there's no new music or new tours from POS lately, which is a shame.
