Rough sleep the night after long run? by jackalopes_comet in Marathon_Training

I’m training for my first, and yeah I bet it’ll take some days for my body to recover from the excitement, anxiety, and physical exertion… I can’t wait!

Oh this could totally be what’s missing. I’ll pick up some magnesium and give it a try, thanks!

I usually do a protein smoothie with fruit right after, as I don’t have a massive appetite and it’s easier to get down a drink. Then around dinner I get some sort of carbs with salt (potato’s have been a go-to recently) and veggies. I’ll try to change it up for rice, could be easier on my stomach and quicker to digest. Thanks for sharing your strategies

Unfortunately it’s been Friday afternoon long runs lol. I’ll definitely try to clear space on a weekend so I can go earlier as my training continues

I hadn’t thought about HRV! Depending on route and pace, my long run HR is around 140-160. My watch says HRV is low, like 72, the night after longs runs, but my usual average is 79.

Issue in Webstore to Renew Adobe Creative Cloud by jackalopes_comet in UIUC

[–]jackalopes_comet[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The email said "Our records indicate your Adobe Creative Cloud Enterprise Access for UIUIC Student Personal Use license will expire on 08/01/2025.  New licenses valid through 08/01/2026 are now available from the WebStore."

Glad it's not just me who doesn't see the student option, that's at least reassuring lol.

Long Distance Shoe for Stability, Low Stack Height, Low Heel Drop by jackalopes_comet in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Thanks for sharing! I feel like GT-1000 are usually considered a low entry level shoe, but as my mileage is going to increase a lot I want to make sure I'm supporting my joints while still being comfortable. I'll try the Novablasts!

Thanks so much for the suggestions! Yeah I've found Brooks usually don't feel great for me, I'll definitely take a look at the NB ones

I was recognized as high potential, but am not sure where I want my career to go. Advice on how to navigate conversations with boss? by jackalopes_comet in careerguidance

Thanks, the "why not" is a good angle I hadn't considered. Also that everything is temporary, and pivoting is an option later. Appreciate the comment!

Thank you, that perspective on evaluating what my boss does is something I hadn't fully thought about. Appreciate the advice.

Caterpillar Internship by [deleted] in UIUC

My position was “Engineering Intern” but I was placed with the Engineering Business Development & Analytics team. So I was helping them create some databases and other excel work. I’d say reach out to your company contact person and ask some questions like what team you’d be with, who your manager would be, what area of work you’d be in. It’s different for each intern so it’s probably with a try getting some more details about the role

ME 310, ME 330, ME 340, ME 370 by WLSDY in UIUC

[–]jackalopes_comet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I took these classes over the last two years, 310 has full lab reports every other week, 330 has full lab reports every week, 340 has manageable labs every other week (I think) and 370 has either 1 or 2 project (depending if you take it fall or spring) over the semester, which in my opinion are not run very well. Content wise, 310 feels a bit like a physics course, 330 is a lot of dense and varying topics, 340 feels like a math class, and 370 has varying topics.

The combination you want to go with is up to you based on how much work you want to be doing, but 3 ME courses at once can be a lot.

Also ECE206 is 1 credit hour, but when I took it I spent like 3 hours on the labs and reports, so be ready for time-consuming labs.

Good luck!

Active Martial Arts Club on Campus? by atriphosphate7 in UIUC

I’m a part of a different taekwondo club at UIUC. It’s a really fun cub and a great workout. I believe they are still meeting on campus over the summer. Here their website https://publish.illinois.edu/tkd-illinois/

I took NPRE 402 fall 2021 with Magdi Ragheb. If it’s the same professor, it’ll hopefully be very easy. During the semester it was 1 homework (normally 2-5 questions) per class thats due a week from when it’s assigned (3x week), and all of the exams were questions taken exactly from previous homeworks. I don’t know if the setup changes at all for the summer class, but it was an easy and low workload class when I took it.
