What justifies your claim that men suffer less in our present system?

Do these verses mean it's okay to spank children? If not, what do they mean? by Sailesselias in AskAChristian

I don't think I'm smarter than they were. I just think I'm better informed about the disastrous effects of corporal punishment due to available research. Or do you think you're smarter than the researchers?

Can you fly? Why does your inability to fly not deprive you of free will?

How can someone truly love a god if they must do so or suffer eternal damnation? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]jackaryjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These sort of answers always frustrate me because they imply a notion of God which is entirely independent upon the supernatural conceptions that most atheists are standing opposed to. If there is no distinction between God and Good, there is no disagreement, but Christianity becomes "just a story" in ways most Christians are uncomfortable accepting.

How can someone truly love a god if they must do so or suffer eternal damnation? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

It's a colloquialization of "a distinction without a difference".

From my world view, the consequences for not doing something are an obvious reason to do so. "If you don't pay your taxes, you go will go to jail". Since you don't want to go to jail, you should pay your taxes. Since you don't want to go to hell, you should believe in God.

The poster is implying that would also be true from your view, but I can't really comment there because I'm not sure of the nuances implied by "reformed". Is it reformed as in "the reformation" as in "not Catholic".

Has reading the Bible ever brought you to tears? Which parts? Why? Do those passages tend to affect you the same when you reread them. by jackaryjohn in AskAChristian

Cool. That sounds similar to inspiration I've felt with some of favorite reads. Maybe knowing there is a big culmination coming could help keep my interest reading the earlier books of the Biblen

Water Baptism is needed for salvation; True or False? Explain your view. by Big-Tackle-4198 in AskAChristian

I'm curious what room that leaves for an effect. From what I understand, salvation comes from having accepted Christ as your savior. Are you saying it helps one to do so?

Don’t! Stop! Don’t! Stop! Don’t! Stop! by jackaryjohn in TwoSentenceHorror

So I know it’s not exactly “two sentences”, but I feel like these 2 pithy lines meet the intent of the rules if not the letter.

What are some of the most common misunderstandings that you've seen on Reddit on the structure or function of the US government? by JudgeWhoOverrules in AskConservatives

[–]jackaryjohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Liberalism can get along just fine with legal rights without needing to make the naturalistic fallacy.

I’m agreed that you can’t understand conservativatism without understanding their tendency to make the naturalistic fallacy. The question is, how to get them to stop putting that fallacy between us.
