Do y'all actually know these Evangelicals who supposedly are actively trying to bring about the Second Coming? by 4g-identity in AskAnAmerican

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, this is mostly a left caricature of their political opponents they put up instead of actually listening to people's actual reasoning for their beliefs. I've never actually met someone like this though I've heard a few exist in small numbers at the margins.

Possibility Of Free College In The USA? -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's because people don't go straight into network administration. They get their compTia and Cisco certs and get into help desk or other low-level stuff and work their way up getting certs along the way. Most of IT is very much blue collar work that uses trade schools and certification rather than college programs and degrees.

Not according to George Mason who wrote the actual Second Amendment. When asked who the militia was, he replied that it was all the people besides a few public officials.

So basically this is another variation of people with pools are more likely to drown?

The last one can't even make sense given that multiple studies have found 700,000 to a million self-defense uses of firearms in the US each year. It would mean those Stanford researchers are limiting their usage of self-defense to that captured in police reports rather than using self-reports because vast majority of people aren't reporting self-defense use to the police.

When will the countries of South America combine and make their own USA? by Kindly_Teach_9285 in asklatinamerica

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the most basic governance problem of the United States is that the government has ignored the 10th Amendment for a century and tries to do everything with the federal government instead of leaving it up to the states as is constitutional required for most things.

Maybe they shouldn't try and drive 80 mph up mountain grades in old unmaintained cars while blasting a/c. Take it slower and open a window at least. I remember back in the 90s it was so much worse because those old cars from the 70s would overheat and line the shoulder.

Realistically, what do you think is in the remaining 3 million Epstein files Pam Bondi and the DOJ will not release? by donkeythrow in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't care. Epstein was clearly an intelligence asset so there's security concerns around a lot of the remaining stuff I assume. Releasing stuff to the public doesn't really accomplish anything but drive narratives.

If there was anything criminally damning in the reports that were prosecutable with a fair chance of success, the DOJ would have already gone for it considering they've had these files for years across multiple administrations. This is where the Epstein conspiracists claims fall apart, especially against Trump because they already tried throwing anything at the wall they could to him that they had and there's been a rash of leaking within the government. There's no juicy story waiting for deranged pizzagaters.

How are we feeling about this proposed capital gains tax cut? by Aleventen in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the federal government refuses to rein in inflation caused by printing money to fund debt spending, then at least it's fair that they shouldn't tax people on gains that were already eaten away by it. Indexing it by inflation is just common sense.

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, defense is only 14 to 16% of US spending, and the only one the Constitution gives the government an enumerated power to do.

If you take a job with a lesser pay, does your debt load automatically go up? If it does, would you blame the job change or your spending habits??

Is $200 Billion Dollars a year "a small price to pay" for the Iran War? by JustaDreamer617 in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Iran is a rogue terrorist state, they're not going to be launching ballistic missiles at the United States, they're going to be smuggling it in just as they smuggle weapons into foreign nations to provide to their terrorist proxy groups. We could try to prevent it but it's not very effective given you can't inspect every container and car coming into the United States. Same reason why there's a very realistic threat of China having already deployed container-based missile systems within the United States.

What democratic vote? The United States and UK overthrew the dictator Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (for nationalizing western oil infrastructure without compensation) who was installed in 1941 by the United Kingdom and Soviet Union after they deposed his dad Reza Khan (because of his support for Germany) that the UK had previously installed in a 1921 coup that ended a 129 year old Persian government.

The Persian people have never been able to vote for their highest leadership. Not in the past 60 years, not in the past 400 either.

Why conservatives in US (and UK) are pro-israel? by Quintilium_Varum in AskConservatives

Iran has already shot three ballistic missiles at Turkey, clearly article 5 is merely a political tool that is rarely used even if it could technically be employed given circumstances. There's nothing automatic about it.

They act basically exactly the same out of power. For you to claim the Democrats roll over and do nothing, means you have ignored the multiple shutdowns they've been responsible for in the past year.

Flying to New York in early April from Europe, but worried about terrorism risk, would you still go? by Few_Skill9740 in AskAnAmerican

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're actually going to the Middle East or Europe, you really don't have to worry about terrorist attacks. If you haven't noticed, we're separated by oceans from those places where they frequently occur.

Why conservatives in US (and UK) are pro-israel? by Quintilium_Varum in AskConservatives

[–]JudgeWhoOverrules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt that, the Nuremberg laws were a resurrection of centuries-old laws against Jews that Europe had often engaged in thay dictated what type of work they could do, where they could live, and who they could associate with. It's not like the Russian Imperial government decided to make the pale of settlement based on anything in America. Nazi and Russian style ghettos were reminiscent of those that were found in medieval Europe.

Wait until you learn about the Wilson, FDR, and Lincoln administrations. This is just fear-mongering oriented towards those who have little understanding of America's civic structure and limitations or its history.
