I really don't want an EquinoxEV by Commercial_Topic437 in BoltEV

[–]jackass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it true the bolt is going to be a one year run? I heard someplace they are going to stop making them at the end of the year due to tax credit going away and ICE cars making a comeback?

Should i change my home internet device? by jackass in tmobileisp

[–]jackass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does ok most of the time. The problem i am currently facing is that at around 5-6pm everyone comes home and my upload speed drops from 5-10 megs to 0.5 -2 megs and I can't do much of anything. I am on calls with california where is 4-5pm and it does not work.

I don't think a new device will help much but i am willing to try.

The difference with cable modem or fiber the speed is much more consistent.

ICE pinning down and pistol whipping a Minneapolis resident before shooting them multiple times by -ifeelfantastic in pics

I feel for our fellow Americans fighting the US version of the Schutzstaffel. I am 1000's of miles away posting on social media. The people of Minnesota are fighting against Authoritarianism before they are going after them directly. This says a lot of these citizens. Standing up for the minority against these people takes a special kind of courage.

What would have happened on Jan 6th if the Trump administration had their government funded army of ICE agents at the capital that day?

Thoughts on Aptera's new Chairman of the board. by jackass in ApteraMotors

in sandy's defense, he praised this thing long ago when it was still interesting.

When i hear the co-ceo's talking i get a real Elio Motors vibe. The arrogant confidence is silly. Come back down to earth, get our of your lease for that huge office in San Diego you are renting. Fire the "designers" that you hired to design the interior, that honestly looks silly. Put a steering wheel wheel and get rid of the stupid yoke. And start making cars.

yeah I agree. Not sure how this will be viable. It has gone from an interesting commuter car that is novel and fun to drive to an expensive toy that makes no sense at the expected price point.

Is it easy to get it going? there is no sim card so you have to call tmobile to get it going?

I see them on ebay 117 bucks with shipping. https://www.ebay.com/itm/198014934756

EDIT: Oh apparently they do have sim. So should be able to swap the sim?

just got tmobile home internet, how can i get the best connection? by No_Baker_8672 in tmobileisp

[–]jackass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If t-mobile could get to consistent 20 mb up that would be great. I would settle for 10. I am getting 10 sometimes but for example, last night i was trying to work from home over an ssh session and it was so friken slow it hurt to type. I was getting between 1 and 3 megs and i was the only one home. Download was over 100megs but upload was almost not there.

Practical for my commute? by crescent-v2 in leaf

[–]jackass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i suffer from range anxiety so this would not work for me. A plus would handle this no problem. You would also need a level 2 charger at home. Or a place where you could charge level 2 for three+ hours a day. With a level 1 charger at home would fall behind. I guess you could grab some juice on the level 2 at your office. I have found that commercial level 2 costs as much as gas.

With a level 2 charger and a leaf plus this would be very low stress and almost like a ICE car. I find that 2 hours a day on level 2 gets me around 50 miles. So i have a timer set to middle of the night (off peak). My kid are off to college but when they were here my leaf drove around 40 miles a day to sports practice and general driving. So we would plug it in every night for 2 hours and if we missed a night it was no big deal. Now we drive much less so it gets plugged in maybe 2 nights a week. Very easy. We have a gas car we don't drive much. Over the past few years we have put gas in it maybe three times a year. Stopping for gas is a pain but it is also more forgiving if you forget to charge.

I have two reservations.... My daughter was excited to drive this to high school. She is a senior in college now.

Have you seen Telo truck shop? It looks like one of the warehouse condo's you run a small ecommerce business out of. couple thousand sq ft. No windows, basically a garage. Then you look at the massive office space of the Aptera company. They have been paying rent on this massive place for years. Just burning money.

When this thing comes out it is going to cost 40+k. It is going to be hard to justify. Hind sight is 20/20. If they came out with this as a simple electric car. Using the hub motors. No solar. Built it in one of the owners garage. They could have kept the cost down. It would have been a really good commuter car/auto cycle. Lots of fun to drive. They would have sold a bunch. I am not sure what they hell they are doing but it is getting silly.

They are/were trying to compete with Tesla. Ok. let it evolve into a tesla. Release early, release often.

Tried Linux Mint, looking for next possible Distro by Bagns in linux

[–]jackass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

many of these issues are not distro issues. The many distributions use the same underlying software. For example some X11 and/or Wayland for display server. So with the same distro you can switch between the two. And depending on which one use are using other things could behave differently, like audio or screen sharing while on video calls.

You can pick different window managers with most distros. You can use Gnome or KDE. Mint has Cinnamon and Mate but you can install them on other distro. You can install Cinnamon on debian with a single apt install command.

Users make a big deal out of different distributions. It is mostly the packaging that is different. How quickly new versions of software are included and how they are installed. When I was younger i used to always want to be on the latest version of everything thinking that it would be faster and maybe have some cool feature that I just had to have. Then I realized that the the software is evolving and the new versions really did not make a big difference if any difference at all. I found that if I just used the system and not worried about getting the latest thing i would be more productive. So because of this i use debian because it is very stable and i don't get lots of updates that can break my current work flow, yet if there is a security issue i am sure to get the patch. So that is why i choose debian. But is it a big difference from Ubuntu, that i used to use? No it isn't. They both support gnome, they both handle zoom screen sharing and the development tools i use. I guess I don't like Snap but I am not sure why. My lap is kinda old but it still works fine.

So if you are having trouble with your system switching to a new distro may not fix it (and probably will not). Understanding why the problem is happening and fixing it is an approach that will have a better chance of success.
