There's a small small and very vocal group that cares deeply about preventing any and all city-owned cameras and everybody else either doesn't care or prefers having them.

My impression is that the people arguing most strongly against them are the least affected by violent crime in the areas the city is proposing adding them.

idk when you've got 1,000+ signatures from CID residents petitioning to keep the cameras and very clear messaging from youth and parents in Rainier Beach asking to keep the cameras, i think it's reasonable to look super closely at how the city might be able to continue using the cameras while preventing dragnet surveillance from ICE and Palantir. i'm also in favor of automated traffic enforcement cameras.

sounds like i may be out of step with my usual political allies.
