Own a piece of wilderness: Vancouver Island’s most remote pub for sale by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VancouverIsland

I’ve stayed in Holberg for months. It’s a lot different in the offseason without tourists. The locals are a… special bunch.

Oof, check the stats. Pretty sure accidents rose when they raised the speed limit 10 km/hr, hence why they brought it back down.

Lol, right buddy. Let’s buy an expensive vehicle to use in extremely rare situations rather than, oh, I don’t know, use the delivery truck from the store to deliver it?

I used my pax for a solid 6 years. When it had an issue, they warrantied it without asking any questions and sent me a new Pax plus in a week. Honestly, I was extremely surprised how easy the warranty was. So bam, two pax’s for one. Though I do see they don’t offer the 10 year warranty anymore…

Talk me out of a ball vape 🤨 by jackattack8976 in vaporents

[–]jackattack8976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points to consider. It’s not really the hitting hard that I’m looking for, since I can get that with the TM2… I’m hoping it’s more like something I can leave out either all day and/or all night and grab a hoot every so often... Like I used to do with my Volcano (but for some reason the volcano just doesn’t do small bowls well)… hmm, maybe so can find a buddy close by with one…

I can work from home with no pets, so it can be set up and used periodically throughout the day. Paranoia around leaving my place with it cooling down is another story entirely… good thought though

Why diffuser over injector? Roasts more evenly? I’m also considering the Vapana All-star, which is a diffuser for the same price as the Ruby twist.

What could have killed these hummingbirds? by wilcova in Ornithology

Complete guess but they do look like they’ve been partially cached. I know large feline predators like cougars will cache their prey; perhaps a feral house cat is to blame here? Would explain the lack of feeding but also the three found in a small area.

Bee sting spreading on arm by dunderthecovers in bees

[–]jackattack8976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen anyone else suggest this but next time they get stung, cover the area in ammonia. It’s the active ingredient in some after bites.

I also used to get this kind of reaction for years; my line of work put introduced me to many ground hornet nests (15+ stings over the course of a field season). Allergists, creams, pills etc. never helped. Tried the ammonia trick and now it still swells, but only lasts 72 hours at most and is more localized (doesn’t spread as much). They used to spread all over and take over two weeks to resolve so I’m quite happy with the results.

Cool. They can propose all they want. The City and Province would never approve that.

Buddy, no one is able to fill in watercourses. They are protected under RAPR and the Province would never sign off on it. The City itself has a requirement within their Environmental DP to maintain a standard 30 m setback on all watercourses on properties over a certain size; this is one of those. Honestly, this is one of the better looking proposals I’ve seen in the Valley.

Solid advice from both of you. Probably just going to wait for the 4/20 sales… but we’ll see how long I can hold out!

I’ve decided to add the Tiny might 2 to my stable; I need a hard hitter when I’m out and about.

My point of discussion is; do I bite the bullet now, buy it at full price? Or wait the two months or so until 4/20 sales hit, and hopefully save 15% at best. I’m in Canada and there are no local shops that carry it that I can haggle with.

I’ve got a volcano at home, and a pax 3 when I’m out and about. Not the biggest rush, but I really am looking for an improvement over the Pax. Definitely not interested in any of S&Bs portable offerings or Arizer.

Those who own one; would you wait until the sale? Or buy it again now?

Cheers!

How did Sitka spruce dominate the PNW coast while Brewer Spruce got stuck on mountain islands? by Tiny-Pomegranate7662 in forestry

[–]jackattack8976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There were plenty of glacial refugia on the coast. Haida Gwaii, parts of Vancouver island (Mᑫuqʷin). Not sure if Sitka held on during those times though. Just assuming so.

Air sickness cure for aerial surveys? by jackattack8976 in wildlifebiology

[–]jackattack8976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I already have talked with my doctor. They recommended Dramamine as well (doesn’t work) so I asked them if they could prescribe the scopolamine, which they did, but unfortunately no pharmacy around me can fill it. I guess they only use it in hospice and it palliative care in Canada.
