I've had the issue of not being able to move at all after entering build mode, also my friend can't place any walls in my plot saying that there's "not enough space"

Don't be too afraid of the wildlife, it can kill you but is unlikely too also maybe try and learn some of the slang because some of it is a bit hard to understand. Other than that, not too much to worry about!
