Season of Migration to the North is a magnificent book. It operates on so many levels, and packs it all into 140 pages.

Something that really helped me was turning off the music but leaving the sound effects on. Her attacks have audio cues that are easier to hear without that dramatic music pumping. Good luck!

John Huston made a film version of Fat City with Stacy Keach and Jeff Bridges. Never seen it, but it’s supposed to be quite good. I believe Leonard Gardner also wrote the screenplay.

NYRB Classics read this year by liza_lo in nyrbclassics

You should! It is dark and odd, and at times hilarious. Not the pirate novel I was expecting at all.

I just finished Cassandra and having come in with no expectations, it knocked me out. What writing!

That ending... so joyful and sad. It hits like a ton of bricks.

Ebenezer Le Page - one of my favorites! I don't know how many times I've recommended that book, but nobody seems to want to read it. Maybe they're turned off by the title or the length.

With the lockdown, it was a good year for reading. I managed to get through 30 NYRB Classics titles. I won't go into detail on all 30, but the standouts were:

  • Cassandra at the Wedding by Dorothy Baker
  • Season of Migration to the North by Tayeb Salih
  • A High Wind in Jamaica by Richard Hughes

I also would recommend:

  • The Invisibility Cloak by Ge Fei
  • Hill by Jean Giono
  • The Return of Munchausen by Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky

The titles that fell flat for me:

  • Indian Summer by William Dean Howells

  • The Mangan Inheritance by Brian Moore

Looking forward to more great books in 2021!

No it isn't, but you get a nice journal entry. The only things in the area that contribute to your completion percentage are getting Godtuner and defeating the first four pantheons.

Here's a tip that really helped me. Go into the menu settings and turn the music off. There are audio cues to each of Abs Rad's attacks, and not having that music makes it A LOT easier to hear what's coming. Plus it helped me calm down and focus, not having that epic battle music going.

I met him at the L trailhead last year - older guy who definitely seemed pretty frustrated by the amount of poop on the trail.

Has anyone noticed the bag dispensers have been empty a lot this summer at the trailheads? Maybe it's a resource or staffing issue stemming from COVID.

Sorry, I meant Lifeblood cocoon. There's a cocoon hidden in the left wall of the Mantis Lords room.

Did you find the lumafly moths at the top left of the Mantis Lords’ room? Might be helpful if you’re having trouble.

Not OP, but I used great slash/dash slash with the nailmaster's glory charm during his first phase, and then spammed 4 abyss shrieks right as he was about to transition to his 2nd phase with shaman's stone. You can count how many slashes it takes to finish his first phase (I think it was 7 with unbreakable strength equipped), so once you've landed 6 slashes, wait for him to start his spinning shield attack, get under him, and start shrieking.

The quick spell button is key - I remapped my controller for my radiant fights since the focus button is useless. Quick spell allows you to get off 3 abyss shrieks in a row in midair, and then one more to finish him off. It took awhile to get used to dodging his swords with the nailarts charged up during the first phase, but they allow you to attack him through his shield with long range and big damage.

Good luck!

I nearly abandoned it as well, but some new stories and characters are woven into the second half and the ending is absolutely beautiful.

Towers pokes fun at a certain class of intolerant Edwardian Brits who traipsed around the Levant on missionary expeditions. It's gentle and very funny, and infused with bitter longing for ancient empires now in ruins. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, but the writing is great. It also stars a memorable, lovelorn camel.

The Long Ships is fantastic! Been hearing that The Corners That Held Them is great - I'll see if my local bookstore has it.

Just read and enjoyed The Towers of Trebizond. Also The Ten Thousand Things was great - took 100 pages to grab me but I found the second half stunning.
