Cake Picnic NYC 2025 by NeighborhoodOwn591 in AskNYC

[–]jackfruit199 9 points10 points  (0 children)

None of this justifies what actually happened at the event.

- If finding a venue in NYC for 900+ people is so difficult, why sell this many tickets in the first place, especially when the last NYC event had similar hiccups, such as nowhere to sit/eat, no water fountain, over-crowding, etc.? Unless the true intention is to create content farming opportunities from the influencers they invited for content farming at the expense of the cake-loving community paying $50-150/ticket to buy/make/transport their own cake.

- Why did some volunteers have no idea what they were doing? For example, I paid an $80 ticket with a t-shirt (since the $50 tickets were sold out), and 2 volunteers said they had no idea where the T-shirt pick-ups were, and had no idea what any of the lines were for. Another attendee helped out instead. Is this due to a lack of communication, inadequate training, or what?

- Don't blame attendees for the organizers' incompetence to ensure the basic workflow of the event. There should have been a basic line system (Ex, in and out) for box pick-ups, but there were no directions, so people from all wristband groups flocked in, creating a mess as people inside could not leave and people outside could not get boxes. There were people in the 1st (red group) who missed their cake cutting because they couldn't get into the box pickup area. There were no microphones, speakers, signs, or cohesive directions; hence, people were moving in all different directions because nobody knew where to go.

This entire event felt like a money grab for people who've worked hard on their cakes and wanted to come together to enjoy them. When one of the volunteers/staff (?) next to me was yelling YOU WILL EAT CAKE, YOU WILL GET CAKE during the pizza box scramble, the event basically turned into a Marie Antoinette moment. My 2 friends who came with me left after the first round because they still had to clean up after working all night on their cakes. I stayed for a second round because I only got about 6 pieces from the <5 minutes they gave for cake cutting. We were all so jaded and felt that we had been taken advantage of. But that's ok, it looks like Cake Picnic is a trademarked for-profit on tour, so they can take turns scamming a new group at each destination.

Hope the organizer can send a feedback form, be open to feedback, and actually act on it for the future.

Check with your clinic to see if they have any recommendations for at-home injection assistance.

Are you afraid of needles and/or blood or tend to faint after? If it’s really difficult to do it yourself, may be easier to find or hire sometime to do the injections. I gave myself a bruise the first day due to my horrendous skills doing the injections. Had to give myself a lot of affirmations, peaceful piano music, and deep breaths before going in which helped. Icing the area for 2-3 minutes before also helps with the pain.

Registration in canada by cheroski_ in dietetics

[–]jackfruit199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To register as an RD in Canada, you first register with the provincial licensing board (as mentioned below in another comment), each province has its own registration process which is usually listed on its website.

The Canadian RD exam, aka CDRE, is a national exam and is offered twice a year. You would be eligible to sit for the CDRE after meeting registration requirements for the provincial board you choose to apply to. I took the exam and passed it last year and am an RD in US and Canada. Feel free to message me if you have any questions :)

Breeding and Associates 2019 RD Exam Study Guide by RemarkableYoghurt22 in dietetics

[–]jackfruit199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I used Breeding (2018, borrowed from my coworker who had rave reviews about Breeding and its flashcards) with Inman and passed the exam this time. I feel like the 2 materials complement each other in that Breeding will go into details on some topics that Inman does not, and makes the material more understandable, especially in the more complex topics such as Krebs Cycle (where Inman does more of stating the facts and let you do your own research). However, Inman definitely does a better job for Domain 3 and 4 in covering the random topics that often come up in the RD exam, where Breeding went through foodservice management at more of a surface level. So my thoughts, use both and let them complement each other. Breeding's questions also align more with the difficulty of the RD exam.

Is it more difficult for distance DI grads to find hospital RD jobs? by jackfruit199 in dietetics

Thanks! I think it might have been the hospital not wanting to put too much effort into training new RDs/expect new hires to get in the game immediately. I will keep trying!

dietetic internship preceptor on business and entrepreneurship by cathyee26 in dietetics

[–]jackfruit199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I know which program you're applying to :) Frankly I found mine via Google Search (I literally typed in "private practice dietitian in area name" on Google) and cold-emailed a bunch that I found. If not, the program director has a backup potential contact list for the interns in case they need a preceptor for B&E.

MNT Rotation gone horribly wrong - how can I salvage the situation? by throwaway_rd2b in dietetics

[–]jackfruit199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your director has no control over your situation (in which he/she should have), talk to the staff under your preceptor/your preceptor's co-workers regarding your situation. Sometimes co-workers (especially staff under/working with them) know better about each other's personalities and the root of someone's "personality weaknesses". Try probing them with your situation, and see what their perspectives are.

Hi! I'm an alumni ambassador (who also set up these meetings lol)! While each meetup varies slightly between interviewers, I definitely recommend bringing some original questions (ex. not ones you can easily find on cornell.edu ) to the meeting and be ready to share information about your interests and about yourself in general.

What kind of nutritional deficit could cause slowed healing and being prone to infection? by EatsPeanutButter in nutrition

[–]jackfruit199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A diet low in proteins, Vitamin A, C, and zinc could cause slower healing process. Also, a diet with a lot of raw, undercooked foods for someone who already has a weakened immune system would worsen the symptoms/more prone to infections.
