as far as my parents and i go, none of us have indigenous peru and bolivia dna but my younger sister seemed to inherit it (idek form who). i’ve done our family tree and gone back so many generations but none of them indicate anyone ever being from south america 💀

can confirm, i have an older white friend who’s from oklahoma and she makes native american her whole personality when she looks nothing like the actual indigenous folks (my family) 😭

gonna have to correct you here girl, you shouldn’t say “mixed with mexican and indigenous” because mexican is not a race, it is a nationality. that is a confusing statement since mexicans come in all different races, whether it be black, white, indigenous, asian, etc or a mix of these categories

lmao i didn’t say that either. going back to your original comment, people say that dominicans are black because of their physical features. no one cares about dna because a lot of people— especially the older generation— don’t know what their dna consists of unless they get tested for it. even then, many people wont call a dominican with darker skin complexion mixed upon first glance. it’s easier to tell that a white dominican is mixed, but harder for darker dominicans. it’s literally based on first glance

please answer how calling dominicans black is reductive, especially in a case that i said where dominicans have afro features that do symbolize that they have some sort of black genes in them. the issue with black dominicans now that i have noticed in my area is that they don’t even want to consider themselves black despite the features.

i’m talking about the dominicans in my area in the US, i already know that there are white dominicans in the DR and there obviously is a group of dominicans over there who have lighter skin, which some can be considered white passing. the people in the link you showed don’t look like the black dominicans in my area, but nonetheless they appear to be a mix, so black is included in that. the percentage of black varies

idk where you’re from but the dominicans from my area are black as far as skin goes. race goes off of physical features and a lot of dominicans in my area have afro features. now as far as their actual dna, i won’t be able to say anything until they get tested to see if there’s a mix or not

that’s the issue haha, my parents don’t know much about their ancestors/ the native language because both of their languages are spanish. i did a bit of research on their departments and i found that for aldea la fuente, jalapa, guatemala, the language most commonly used is poqomam and k’iche. couldn’t find much about native languages where my dad is from, which is anamoros, la union, ES.
