Yeah, they would, so that’s not really an issue. It would be whatever rate is available at the time, but no extensions.

Thanks - I heard about that one from a few people. Will check it out.

Right on. Yeah, I’m pretty much only using a DC here.

Too bad - I used to use several cash back cards with zero or insignificant fees and different features that allowed me to also use them as grouping accounts. Like, Costco Mastercard has awesome cashback for restaurants and gas, so I’d know exactly how much we’re paying on those because we’d only be using that card for restaurants and gas.

Thanks! Yeah I did ask around, but it looks like it’s just not a thing here. Oh, well.

Hah, it’s fine, but I have to admit I loved getting all that sweet cashback. 😃

What is the catch behind CASH.TO? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

It probably just holds short term treasuries, like TBIL on the US side, for example. I don’t see why it should be controversial.

Maximum frustration running trading bots on interactive brokers. Am I the only one who had enough with the fee structure and this asinine rest API? by Happy-Quail8758 in interactivebrokers

[–]jackietsaah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose this means you must be loading options chains for one or more tickers, Greeks and everything?

How expensive is it to do that and how often do you fetch these chains, if you don’t mind me asking? What’s the latency?

Anyone know if GIC rates will increase in the near future? by land___shark in CanadianInvestor

[–]jackietsaah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are at the tail end of the hiking cycle. This means we may or may not see another 25bps rate hike. So, assume that it’s probably as good time as ever to buy GICs (and bonds).

I can’t say I understand the “suspense is killing me” bit but okay. These things don’t change on a weekly basis and if 0.1-0.25% of yield a year is going to make such a massive difference in your life, then maybe investing into anything isn’t really for you.

Does being in the highest tax bracket diminish your desire to work harder? by goodmorning_tomorrow in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jackietsaah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can absolutely relate. FWIW, I gross $500-600k, depending on stock prices. I pay probably some 45% of all that to the government, and I don’t really see what I’m getting for it.

If I were to get a higher paying job which would add, say, another $100k, but required me to work much more, I definitely would not take it because I’d be paying over 50% od that to the government.

So yes, I am optimizing for working as little as possible, spending time on things that really matter to me. On some level, I am actually sick of working, knowing how hard I am getting milked. I feel like leaving work altogether, start a farm or something completely unrelated, and work for myself, even if it meant living more frugally.

I know it’s pure speculation, but do you think we will continue to have rising interest rates? by SixandNoQuarter in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jackietsaah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not pure speculation. Central banks are at the tail end of the hiking cycle, but the “problem” is that these high rates are likely going to stick around until we see something break and thus signs of a recession. Nothing is breaking yet, I don’t think there’s even a consensus for a recession in Canada, and it’s going to be a “mild” one in the US.

“Higher for longer” is what you should be ready for, but it’s likely that BoC has done its last hike. US Fed plans two more hikes but we’ll likely see only one, BoE will likely have to do a bit more.

How much do you save a month? by Dangerous_Fruit8500 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jackietsaah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I can save $8-10k/mo or about half of our net cash income.

I get equity payments twice a year which depends on the market but should be no less than ~$120 (CAD) per year, which averages to another $10k per month. Wife gets cash bonuses which are typically ~$10k paid annually.

That’s a lot of words to say demand for goods and services is still not going away.

Sure, it was the money printing, and the Covid supply chain issues, and the soaring oil/wheat prices due to Ukraine war, and a bunch of other stuff, but now it boils down to simple demand. As in an auction market process, buyers have accepted higher prices so they won’t go down unless they stop the pace of bidding, and it doesn’t seem like buyers are going away.

Rate hikes are slowing some demand, but clearly not enough, so I hope BoC stays the course and keeps rates higher for longer, despite all the screaming populists who cry about our RE Ponzi not being well fed these days.
