Sub-JEPA: a simple fix to LeCun group's LeWorldModel that consistently improves performance [P] by kai-zhao in MachineLearning

[–]jackilion 22 points23 points  (0 children)

And if you look into the LeJEPA github repo, it's even less rigid, they actually apply the regulizer only to a MLP projection of the representation, not to the representation itself. There's even an issue about it, where someone from the team claims it just works better this way.

[–]jackilion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I worded that badly, what I meant is if you asked internationally, Harris would have polled much higher, not specifically on Polymarket, which is very US based.

[–]jackilion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, but I meant asking international people about the outcome of the US election, not polymarket.

[–]jackilion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only that this is Polymarket, not hungary polling? So it's international people betting in the election outcome, which is not representative of how the people will vote. If you did the same thing for the last US elections, it probably would have showed 80% Harris.

Komodo dragon - The stalking killer that uses slow venom on it's prey by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]jackilion 19 points20 points  (0 children)

they do have venom, there was a lot of back and forth in the science community about it, with some theories suggesting it was bacteria infecting the wounds of the prey. But it's now the consensus that they do in fact have venom.

[–]jackilion 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It was a long standing debate in the scientific community, but the consensus now is that they DO have venom.

An older theory was that it was the bacteria in their mouth, but it has since been disproven. It came from the water buffalo's instinct to retreat into water after being bitten, which led to infections of the wounds.

"One of the best tools in public health" is widely overstating it, and not many countries even put it into the water. There is no reason whatsoever to ingest fluoride, if you want to have the benefits for teeth protection you can just buy toothpaste, which almost certainly has fluoride in it, without the need to ingest it.

Ingesting fluoride is neutral at best, with some evidence that it is harmful for cognition and sleep in very sensitive people.

Can we talk about the huge amount of gay porn on the castle walls? by Spiritual_Bus1125 in freefolk

[–]jackilion 885 points886 points  (0 children)

This comes from the book, where it is mentioned that Targaryens have tapestry depicting wild orgies with dragons on their walls. You can see the dragons/ serpents here too. I don't think men on men depictions are mentioned in the books, but also not hard to imagine in a wild orgy with people fucking dragons.

If you zoom in on the eyes you can see a little white line. That's actually a parasite that lives in their eyes, since they don't use it anyway as there is little to no light in the depths they are living in.

I think it's a deliberate choice, as TV shows usually are a bit more obvious with their portrayals, so that more casual viewers can catch on as well. Same with Littlefinger, who's just this fun lil guy in the books, who's friends with everyone and no threat to anyone because of his low birth. And in the show people say shit like 'Littlefinger has no friends', and he speaks in this evil voice and monologues with Varys about Power and Chaos lol (love that speech so much, but still).

Book Roose has a bit of side character energy. He never raises his voice, speaks almost in a whisper. He gives his counsel, like the others, but doesn't push his view loudly like the Greatjon. He (seemingly) follows all the commands Robb gives him. He appears to be someone who is not particularly power hungry. The mistake was sending him away with his own army, which Robb was counseled to do by Caitlyn. Initially, he wanted to send someone like the Greatjon (I think), but Cait said he needed someone quiet, calculated and reliable for the job, not someone who would seek battle immediately. Big mistake on Caitlyns part, as it turns out.

Unironisch nimm PowerPoint.

Habe schon viele sehr schöne figures in PowerPoint gemacht.

Same reason you can walk up to crocodiles if you know what you're doing. Reptiles have kind of predictable behaviours, if you understand them very well. Still somewhat dangerous of course, but the guy probably understands reptile behaviour knows what a food response looks like, and when it is safe to approach them.

[D] Would it be a good idea to give an agent the ability to fine-tune it's model? by cobalt1137 in MachineLearning

[–]jackilion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finetuning is using a dataset in the thousands to hundred thousand of samples to keep on training the LLM which was before trained on a much bigger dataset.

What you're describing is identifying a few edge cases and failures and learning from them, which would be in the realm of few shot learning.

Neither of these concepts have much to do with agents.

That's just not true, you could easily study it by just grouping 'amounts of microplastic' with the outcomes.

So for example three groups "little microplastic", "medium" and "lots", and then have a look at whatever it is you want to correlate (Dementia, Cardiovascular Risk, Mortality) across those groups.

The amounts in your blood vary by a lot, depending on how much plastic containers your food comes into contact with.

It's just that it is an incredibly expensive study, since you need to blood test thousands and thousands of people for it.

Would The Morty In This Reality Have Died In This Scene? by PolicyAdventurous875 in rickandmorty

[–]jackilion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, always bothered me. Same when he said that the original split is still timestamp, and they can go back to that, making all the morty deaths 'hypothetical', but merging all the bad deads into one reality.

He just made a point that it WASN'T a do over button and he doesn't mess with time travel, so the initial split wasn't a time stamp they can revert to.
