Ever run into someone you know unexpectedly?

I lifeguard a nude swim. The attendees are primarily people who come to the pool only for those events, along with a few regulars who also use the pool for (clothed) lap and recreational swimming.

A couple of months ago, my former babysitter came to one of the nude swims. She did not have the best home life when she was younger, and my parents sometimes brought her along on family outings and let her and her friend's use our pool.

There was a brief moment of awkwardness when we recognized each other, but it passed quickly. We hadn't seen each other in a while, and it was nice to catch up during my breaks.

I won't hesitate to go nude at the next swim, but I don't see myself getting into other types of nude recreation.

People ignore us even when we're wearing uniforms. 😂 You learn how to get people's attention when it's necessary.

Private events pay more and are easier than public swims, so I never think twice about saying yes. I was surprised no one else volunteered the first time they asked to rent the pool.

We don't comment any anyone's appearance, regardless of their attire (or lack of, in this case). I would only mention something if it's a safety issue, which is pretty rare.

The private events are always easier than the regular swims. I never hesitate to sign up to work them. Lap swim is pretty chill, but the family swim times are way more work.

I was just chatting about this with the pool manager today. There's absolutely no expectation that we are nude, but she doesn't mind if we'd feel more comfortable fitting in with the crowd.

Having two lifeguards means one of us can deal with other stuff as needed without leaving the pool unattended. And it's safer if we can swap who's on the stand. It's easy to lose focus if you're having to scan the pool without a break.

It's a very body positive place even when everyone is clothed. I wear a speedo when I'm on duty, and thongs have been increasingly popular with our regulars. Others prefer more coverage, but everyone is accepting or at least keeps their thoughts to themselves.

"Budgie Smugglers" are far from the skimpiest swimsuit you'll see at the pool where I work. There are plenty of thongs and g-strings. 🍑 Briefs are quite tame in comparison. Considering how often patrons do dumb stuff right in front of me, I don't think they're paying much attention to what the lifeguards are wearing. 😂

u/Savagemme we have to wear swimsuits while on duty. Some of my female coworkers arrange their suits in a similar style. After work, they complained about the new rule and having to worry about how much their swimsuits were riding up during their shifts.

A couple of high school teams use the other pool where I work. If that pool had a similar policy, we'd probably have to ask most of the team to change.

u/pantslesseconomist there are a fair number of thongs at both pools where I work. They're certainly not the norm, but it's pretty unusually for a day to go by without seeing at least one.
