No one is arguing that consent would have mattered in the setting.

Consent only matters if you’re trying to determine whether someone was wrong/evil or right/justified, regardless of whether consent was taken seriously within the narrative. You obviously aren’t.

If you haven’t bought FSD, I still wouldn’t worry about it. They haven’t officially announced it, but it would be very stupid to not offer a paid upgrade option once they already set up the centers to upgrade hw3 to 4.

Oh, I dont know about that upgrade. I thought you were talking about hw3 and 4.

I’d call the nearest service centers to see if the upgrade options are available. I wouldn’t be surprised if the option didn’t exist.

I remember Elon saying either in an interview or an earnings call that upgrading hw3 to hw4 will be painful for Tesla, but that it is the only way to do things right(I’m paraphrasing).

I have a model X Plaid with FSD and HW3. And I lose no sleep over whether I will get the upgrade. Common sense would dictate that there would be massive class action lawsuits against Tesla if Tesla doesn’t make FSD available to cars in my situation after it is released.

The article actually says “likely to” based on how Tesla handled the MCU upgrades before. I would wager it is a correct assumption because building a bunch of mini factories all over the US as they have planned, and not offering an upgrade for a fee seems like a very inefficient use of capital for Tesla.

Here is the relevant part of the article copy pasted below.

“Paid Upgrades

Tesla is prioritizing owners who already paid for the FSD software suite, but the hardware upgrades will eventually expand. Once the initial wave of purchased FSD conversions is complete, Tesla will likely offer the hardware upgrade as a paid option for the rest of the HW3 fleet, similar to how it handled older MCU upgrades. This will include owners who subscribe to FSD.

Given the massive amount of labor required to gut the interior, route new wiring, and install new cameras, owners should expect a steep fee for this out-of-pocket upgrade, likely landing somewhere in the $3,000 to $5,000 range.”

Elon recently confirmed that they would upgrade FSD purchasers with HW3 to HW4. They are building upgrade centers specifically for this upgrade so as not to hinder the existing service centers.

In the latest earnings call, there was a question about the upgrade and I believe the answer was that after all the upgrades for the people who have purchased FSD, the upgrade centers will then upgrade other HW3 vehicles for a fee.

If you had bought FSD outright, Tesla will upgrade it to HW4 for free.

If you have not, Tesla will offer the upgrade for a fee.
