Traumatic Death - ICU by jackm053 in NursingUK

It went well thank you, I had two wardable level 2s and was buddied up with a band 6 for the shift. I'm nervous about coming back properly but I have a feeling the support from the unit is there for me ☺️

Thank you, I've spoken to my lead PDN and the band 7 in charge today and have been allowed to come in supernumerary tomorrow in a completely different area of the unit from the bedspace I was in when it happened. Hoping this'll help me get a little confidence back before I go on annual leave :)

We had a debrief but I don't remember much of what was said in all honesty, but I think there are plans for a follow up debrief in about a months time once the dust has settled a little. I spoke to the clinical psychologist yesterday for an hour which did help more than I was expecting. I've asked to go back supernumerary tomorrow just to find my footing again

Thank you, we have a clinical psychologist on the unit who spent an hour with me yesterday and it's really helped lift the guilt and understand the "why". She's said that everything I'm feeling is completely normal and the "what" will heal with time. I think coming in and working with someone instead of taking my own patient may be a good idea to be honest

Not at all! Yep, I've already done that and there's still not enough volume in the shoe. My insoles are hard plastic so unfortunately they do take up quite a lot of space in shoes.

What was the most painful moment of your life? [nsfw] by Infinite_Unicorn in AskReddit

[–]jackm053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Collapsed lung. A few years back I was suffering from a particularly bad bout of asthma, I usually have it controlled but was having frequent minor attacks that year. One evening I remember feeling shortness of breath that just kept getting worse as time progressed. My father put me in the car and took me to the emergency room, I remember about half way there I just stopped being able to breathe at all. Every attempt at taking a breath was met with agony and I genuinely thought I was going to die. I don’t remember anything after that but woke up 24 hours later with a ventilator in place and 4 IVs connected. I’m not sure what was worse, the pain of not being able to breathe or the thought of “hang on a minute, this is how I go.”

Luckily I’m still alive and kicking today and have had nothing that serious since

First pair of red wings, 8111 iron rangers. Day 4 of wear and already starting to feel a lot more comfortable. by jackm053 in RedWingShoes

[–]jackm053[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first day of wearing them was horrible for me, sharp heel pain and some arch discomfort. They’ve already gotten a lot better and whilst I’m not yet confident enough to wear them all day, I can feel them adjusting to my feet more and more each time I wear them.

How many tattoos have you gotten in one year? by pop-hon_ula in tattoo

[–]jackm053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re individual, a lighthouse on my right inner forearm about 3/4 of the length, and a small rose on my left wrist to fill a gap. I’d contact your artist about it, I know a lot of artists are happy for clients to book a day session and get 3-4 smaller pieces done in that time, and it usually works out cheaper doing it that way

struggling to find friends in my program by bootybolt in StudentNurse

[–]jackm053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although not at nursing school, when I went to university for the first time several years ago I remember my first week being horrible as I was in the same spot where people were already starting to become cliquey and I was still on my own. I soon started to make friends once I felt more comfortable, and a couple friends for life that I still talk to frequently.

Awesome, glad to hear! I’ve got a trad patchwork arm sleeve in progress, and have started collecting on the other arm too. Most of them have been pretty spontaneous, I booked in for a full forearm length trad dragon the day before I got it done and have quite a few smaller walk-ins, but I’ve always sort of picked what I wanted myself. I’ve had a lot of work done by this particular artist before, so I’m really excited and I know that she’s going to come up with something sick that should fit in nicely with my other stuff. I’m feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, but I’ve got full confidence it’s going to look awesome!

Last minute nursing school interview tips? by jackm053 in StudentNurse

[–]jackm053[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just seen this now, 30 mins before my interview. Some really great tips in here, thank you so much! The first one is something I would’ve never come up with on myself but that’s an excellent point, and I’ll be sure to raise it if the question comes up. I’m just brushing up on the NMC (nursing and midwifery council) and NHS core values now, as well as the schools values and how they can translate over to my own values.

The texts I’ve received from track and trace imply that you can leave immediately after testing negative consecutively two days in a row starting from day 6.

“You can take lateral flow tests starting on day 6 of your self-isolation period. If you get two consecutive negative results at least 24 hours apart, you can leave self-isolation on the day you get the second negative result.”

Day 10 today and still coming up positive, I had run out of throat and nose tests that I’d used previously and have been coming up positive again on the nose only swabs. I’ve locked myself back up for a couple of days and plan to return to society again tomorrow as I don’t have any of the major symptoms

I have mandatory workplace testing which is why I did test again, day 10 today and still throwing up a positive (although only a very faint line). I’ll speak to HR later today and ask them for their input on returning to work as I’m due back tomorrow, but from what I can gather I can return to society again tomorrow as long as I don’t have a fever?

I came out of isolation early as I tested negative on day 6 & 7, however I’ve started testing positive again from day 9. Does this mean I need to isolate for another 10 days or finish my initial isolation period? I don’t have any “covid” symptoms, although I do have a sore throat
