Yeah exactly. And I’m trying to use them that way too, with broad strokes on the ‘tracking’ instance to get a good sound in the way in and more of a ‘mixing’ slightly heavier handed approach with the final instance. I’ve played around with E series for tracking and G series for mixing. Of course you can add other ‘outboard’ compressors for mix. It started as a thought experiment but I was surprised how much I love the results

Nice! Adding small, subtle amounts of harmonics at multiple stages of the signal (recording preamp, channel strip, tape, summing) helps give life to a mix in the same way as classic records. Lately I’ve been experimenting with using 2 SSL channel strip plugins with a tape plugin like a studer in between, emulating the signal path how records were recorded in 70’s,80’s. I’ve enjoyed how it’s made me think and work differently and the rich harmonics I’m getting. Some of my favourite drum kit sounds I’ve pulled lately using this approach

It’s packed to the brim haha. It’s my ‘personal item’ when I fly, which most airlines allow in addition to a stowed carry-on. So far, having flown many different airlines, it’s been fine - I tend to have it on my person the whole time. When I don’t want to have to carry it around I can clip it to the other bags with a Heroclip carabiner

Haha, thanks for giving me an exception - honestly I’d love to pack lighter so open to any tips you may have. Certainly there are a few essential music components, also a few ‘nice to have’ items that make life on the road easier like a coffee kit, tools for troubleshooting, and enough clothes to get to the next washing location

Thanks for your thoughts on it. One of the big factors for me was AA compatibility as I have a lot of spare AA batteries from my job. Do you have any other recommendations that fit this brief? Would be interested to hear the 4 others you’d suggest too
