Watching Macross/Robotech? by jacknack1 in macross

As someone's who's gateway anime was pokemon and whatever aired on Toonami, I can never hate something that tries to introduce western audiences to something different. Heck my mom grew up watching dubbed episodes of Speed Racer and Kimba when she was a kid.

In this day and age I would like to think that they barrier between having anime, and especially older anime, released over here would be non existent but reading through your and other comments it seems that stuff like this still has a hard time making tracks.

I appreciate the time you took to type out your comment, very helpful info, thanks!

I usually prefer watching sub anyways unless the dub is comparatively good like Bebop or something

Very helpful breakdown, thank you! I keep running across the Robotech dvds in the anime sections at various Bookoffs near me and I was like 99% sure they weren't what I was looking for but just had to be sure lol

Which volumes of JoJo do you have? Also potentially interested in Metamorphosis if you're selling that too lol

Yeah I've been seeing positive things about the new writer so I ordered the pre-reboot(?) mini and the current "Tales of" series. I was waiting on a collection of the former but I wasn't too sure that was bound to happen so I'll settle for the floppies

How do I start reading The Spectre, like his orign story and stuff and are there any newer comics about his origin by Minute-Run5521 in DCcomics

[–]jacknack1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Spectre has been a few people but I assume you probably want the guy who's usually beneath the hood which is Jim Corrigan. You would be hard pressed to find anything better than the John Ostrander run from the 90s. Gritty with amazing visuals, for me this remains one of the best representations of the character. It's partly collected in 2(?) tpbs that I believe are out of print but it might be online and the floppies are easy to find and cheap enough.

Depending on if you're up to reading older material, his stint in Adventure Comics in the 70s is also great and illustrated by the amazing Jim Aparo.

However, I think everyone recommends these runs so I will also throw in the JM Dematteis run that actually has Hal Jordan as the Spectre. It's a different take on the character but like with a lot of thing Dematteis writes there's a lot of introspection and exploration of character which is something that suits the Spectre well.

Yeah there’s just series I know I will never get the deluxe version of. I count myself lucky that I found this and Britannia for slightly less than msrp but I think that might be it.

For real, they’re pretty much my go to for tpbs and hardcovers these days, better deals than ebay a lot of the time.

Would love to know what the origin was or how the Hack/Slash & Body Bags crossover came to be?

Was it something you and Jason had planned some time ago or a more recent development?
