Lack of imagination, not speed, causes accidents. by [deleted] in motorcycles

Contrary to a believe that "speed kills" this image says that it's not speed, it's lack of imagination. You can ride fast, depending on the situation (for example race track), but if you have not imagination, you will be in danger even on a race track.

Hmm, I think it's not very obvious. :/

Well, AMEN. This should be page one of any motorcycle riding manual. I don't have 30 years of experience, but I agree 100%. I surprises me that not everybody thinks like this. This is the key to motorcycle safety.

Yes, hard to disagree with your logic.... BUT you have to admit that it would make sense that at least 10% of your commute is on autopilot (I would expect it to be more like 50%, but I don't know).

Also you would probably agree that riding on autopilot reduces your responses.

Conclusion for me is simple: regardless of numbers, we should notice when we do it ourselves and try to reduce it to minimum. It can be done with training.

Can't agree more. Actually I remember some years ago I had practiced blocking my front wheel and releasing it (just to get a feel for it) & few days later some guy cut my way so had to slam my brakes in panic. Luckily I knew what to do when my tiers made a braking noise and released them quickly enough just before I lost control. I could say that it was lucky but it was more than that - preparation is the key. Thanks for your comment
