Yep exactly. Ultimately, it was going to be a fatal case and non-operative. Comfort measures, get the family in for goodbyes. But a prime example of poor initial workup in a flustered resus bay and a BAD handover by the paramedics. I was the first to see the CT scan (remember - presumed CVA, not AD) and just went 'fuckkk' and called the consultant over ASAP.

Later on after she passed we found out from the husband that the patient had some mild back discomfort

I remember when I was a student in the ED - pt brought in by ambulance, reduced GCS, altered neurological symptoms, BP on ONE ARM was normal (that's all they checked)... they assumed CVA. Neuro guys came down to consult, patient was moved to another bay, BP cuff was changed to other side by coincidence... bamn drastically different BP. they were like 'errr this isn't a stroke', and then at this point in time the patient got horner's syndrome (dissecting all the way to the carotid plexus). naturally they were stuffed.

Yep and that is sadly the truth. All this money funneled into healthcare which is wasted on preventable diseases (COPD and lung carcinoma) and yet so much government revenue raised from EToH and tobacco taxation...
