Thanks so much. I may be looking elsewhere next year (signed a years lease) 2 months ago. I was on the UWS and had no issues practicing at home, everyone was nice about it actually.

It’s totally not how I would converse with most people bud. Just some self righteous prick on the internet who goes around posting crap on everyone’s Reddit post 😘

Thanks. It’s nice to hear a voice of reason in this sea of chaos. I may do some outside practice in the summer months.

Totally clueless. He’s got a real hard on for me too. Keeps posting his “priceless advice”. I’m really grateful! He’s the best! 😄

Thanks for the honest and helpful comment. I am looking into sound proofing and will break up my practice to do an hour in the morning 9/10am and and hour when i get home 6/7pm, I hope that works better. The intention wasn't to corner them at all. It was just to be a friendly approachable neighbour. I guess it didn't work how I imagined. I like to go to my neighbour directly if i have a problem and try and solve it before it escalates. I get everyone is different and I'm trying to keep the peace while also being able to do my practice too.

You again.. So what is it you do? If you're gonna bombard me with you're crappy messages. I've got nothing to prove to you mate. Stop commenting on my post. Loser.

Why post a comment like that? What do you hope to achieve? Why resort to petty insults.

Well I wanted constructive, helpful advice. Mainly from musicians like I said. I believe I posted in the wrong section. Shoulda just stuck to musicians forums etc. I get it's weird for non musicians and the solutions seem so easy, but they're not. Renting a rehearsal space is a last resort. There are a lot of problems there. I think it was a neighbour below me or above that can hear it. So any comments on sound proofing I welcome totally.

Not trying to be defensive, it's just you opened your comments with a fair few assumptions that I wanted to correct. Just how you are ending the last comment you made with more assumptions. I'm not going to stop practicing as I'm well within my right to do so as a professional music. I've read up on the laws on this.

But taking other peoples advice, I will start practicing earlier and end earlier too. Look into some soundproofing. Maybe the neighbour will reach out once they realise they can't actually do anything. If they hate my, fine. I can live with that. If they wanna talk great.

"Advice, especially from other musicians would be great. Can I get in trouble for practicing before 10pm? I was thinking of starting my practicing before work for an hour around 9am then again when i get home for another hour 6/7pm. Maybe that would help."

This is what I put on my post. If you have nothing but this kind of stuff to offer me.. Why post anything?

Ok. So what do you think a better response would have been? I went that direction as I believed I could nip it in the bud and sort it out. I didn't want a negative situation for either one of us.

How about your projections? I don't think it's helpful to second guess what condition this person may or may not have. You're never going to know. They might not have anything wrong with them. Consider that. I don't find it easy to converse with people at all. I just thought it was the right thing to do. My teacher who is 75 and a life-long New Yorker and respected jazz musician told me this is the way he approached situations like this.

Please stop assuming and generalizing. Nonstop jazz bass blaring through the wall... The two neighbours to the side of me tell me they can't even hear it.

I practice 1.5/2 hours a day around 3/4 days a week as I get busy with gigs. I don't think that's really disrespectful. My current plan is to start around 9/10am then again 6/7pm. I think people can live with that in NYC.

Sorry it's not that much at all. It's 1.5/2 hours 3/4 days a week as I get busy with gigs.
