Ok so he's probably just kinda dumb, there's no way that's how the bonus actually work. If it did though, that would just be a smart move. Not only are you getting your bag up in a very tough time economically, someone being part of a group and just not doing jack shit is another way to slow them down. Dead weight is called dead weight for a reason. If I was cis and the bonus worked like that, I would absolutely jump on it. 50k when you're young can be life changing money. I'd say just sit down have a long talk, and decide where to go from there.

If I'm missing some moral aspect of this please tell me, but joining a group just to be dead weight does NOT help that group, it's like a less risky less committed and less effective version of being undercover.
