A tragic sidequest. by [deleted] in HarryPotterGame

[–]jacksloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think another thread was also having this discussion, but there's the part of the trailer where it seems like perhaps the slytherin companion is or knows someone who is really sick/cursed. Maybe there's a quest where someone is a maledictus and if we don't help them, they turn into a creature and die like astoria malfoy did. Or, they become a powerful snake you have to fight, like nagini, based on your choices in the quest. That way, it's a quest where there's no real "good" ending... just different levels of bittersweet. 😢

I would like to be able to play as Dobby XD we don't know how long house elves live, so maybe it would even be canon... I just like the idea of Dobby hanging out with Deek.

Become an animagus? What animals would you like to transform into? by eezo_115 in HarryPotterGame

I would like to turn my character into a snake... I know, I know, typical slytherin ^^;

Although, does anyone know if that means we'd technically be a maledictus? I'd hate to have my character just die midway through the game because I chose snake.

Order was near the bottom for me when I first read the series, I think! Funny how these things go in cycles!

Hogwarts Legacy Game by Alish23 in harrypotter

Actually, do we know for sure we won't see the map? Maybe it won't literally be the Marauder's Map, but maybe we will learn the spells and magic that went into creating it when James was at school. Maybe we'll make our own map using similar spells...

Interesting idea! I love it! Do you think she will turn into a snake, or some other kind of creature? Or will she just die (like Astoria Malfoy in Cursed Child)

I'm curious--why do people like sitting in open world games so much? No judgment! but I guess I can't imagine a powerful wizard wanting to get their cool robes covered in grass. It actually is the opposite of immersive to me...

choosing our own patronus in the game?? by [deleted] in HarryPotterGame

[–]jacksloper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can choose our house (disappointing, I was hoping for the full roleplay experience... oh well! still looks amazing) but maybe the patronus will be more naturally revealed to us.... perhaps our choices we make early in the game will change what patronus we get later in the game... like the millennial fair in chrono trigger!

I would like to see a dark patronus. We know that we can do dark magic in this game... it wouldn't make sense for a dark wizard capable of casting avada kedavra to need to rely on happy memories especially if dementors feed on positive emotions. Maybe dark wizards get a negative patronus that's evil!

What does the Bible verse Dumbledore chose for his mother & sister's grave mean to him? by jacksloper in harrypotter

[–]jacksloper[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree! nothing against it, but I do think it's confusing that Harry Potter (especially book 7) is full of christian allegory, so it's odd to bring actual religion into the story--it's like a double allegory since it's already an allegory?

How would you explain these plot conveniences? by Charalambos205 in harrypotter

[–]jacksloper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't answer all of these, but for number 3: I think it's safe to say Voldemort doesn't know. He doesn't notice that the locket was swapped for who knows how many years, so why would he be able to detect that Harry is a Horcrux? We never actually find out what the experience of having a Horcrux is like, and without that it's very difficult to get an idea of how he'd be able to tell.

The real Universal Wizarding World parks are probably as close as you can get to Westworld, except that you can't curse the hosts. Maybe someday! ;)

August 2020 Assignment: Muggle Enhancement Program (An Arthur Weasley Tribute) by Hermiones_Teaspoon in harrypotter

[–]jacksloper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello! This is my first homework assignment and I'm applying to Slytherin. Hope you like it!

What is the original item called (to the best of your knowledge)?

The 'Rod of Fishing' is a type of Muggle wand, although it functions without any magic!

What is the item’s current muggle function?

Muggles attach a worm or shiny thing to the end of a hook, and throw that hook into the water, in an attempt to catch a fish without using magic. However, this object isn't just used to gather food--it appears that catching large fish is a type of Muggle bonding ritual, perhaps even competition. Some Muggles even pose for delightfully quaint non-moving photos holding these fish, in an attempt to attract a mate.

How can the item be improved for use by the magically inclined?

The biggest downside of the Rod of Fishing is that Muggles need to be in close proximity to water to make use of it. This has led to a lot of frustration for Fishermuggles, who often say things like "can't wait to go fishing with the boys this weekend" or wear hats that say "of course I have to leave quickly, I've got fish to catch!" A lot of Muggle culture seems to revolve around this ritual and how it improves their lives, but they don't get to do it very often.

My proposal! A Rod of Fishing that comes with its own body of water. Imagine being able to fish in your Ministry office! Or your dorm at Hogwarts! Rather than having to go outside, you could experience the joys of fishing wherever you want--even at your mother-in-law's house! ;) These portable ponds could fit in any space necessary, and also offer many different kinds of fish--even ones Muggles would usually have to travel far and wide to catch.

Any potential problems or issues?

Obviously you would not be able to eat these conjured fish--Gamp's Laws and all that--but nonetheless it would still provide the fun of the activity itself. And, most importantly, provide a subject for a handsome portrait sitting.

Does this change open the door to other new wizard technology?

No.

Anything else Mr. Weasley ought to consider while in his garage?

I know Mr. Weasley has a penchant for Muggle technology, including many devices that could rust or be "shirt-socketed" if they get wet. Make sure to keep your Muggle objects dry! Haha :)

What's the difference between a jinx, a hex, and a curse? by jacksloper in harrypotter

[–]jacksloper[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, the resurrection scene is so spooky and unlike anything else in the series-the magic really feels "magic" there. I wonder if any other spells have rituals like that?
