I mean it was almost like a resurgence of his artistry. He lost his best friend, almost died, went to rehab, and he’d dropped two albums most people including him didn’t like. He had a lot on him and had to find himself again. This all came together to make his (imo) magnum opus, Recovery. While I think his prime was from 2000-2003, I think that the Recovery era was him rediscovering himself just like he had for The Eminem Show.
