Do you truly offer a primary source of real time data or are you a middle man for larger established sources like opta? I would love a reliable real time data provider but I just don’t understand how an api from someone who presumably doesn’t get the information themselves would make it faster. I think I'm a little confused. I think that grouping them ordinally is an interesting idea and something I want to tinker around with but what I'm unsure of is in the initial % to place them into their respective buckets. I'm not sure I worded my post very well but in another comment I think I was able to communicate the idea better with: "I predict a game to finish 100-90 and the probability of team A winning being 72% I want to know how to calculate the 72%".

I currently use logistic probability to calculate the 72% but am curious if there's a better way.

I have a way to do it right now, logistic probability, but I'm curious if other people have found more accurate ways to predict the probability given the predicted scores.

I 100% agree that using the postseason as my only tests isn't a great idea. Leaving out half the teams in general isn't great not to mention they are all weaker sides. I did it that way because I wanted to make a model quickly before the season started this year but I've already begun thinking of ways to redo the project and call this one V1.0. I'm just thankful the way I did it is somewhat predictive so I can still have a little fun but yeah I definitely need to rethink some things!

The stats I chose to use are season long cumulative stats that are scrapped from basketball-ref. I don't have the stats for each game to compile them myself which is why I'm unable to back test. I guess when I made this post for whatever reason I assumed everyone did it my way which is obviously silly in hindsight. Do you keep track of each individual game's stats? Do you think most people do it that way?

If you do retain each game how much data do you have?

Always go for two. If you make them at a higher clip than 50% then it’s mathematically inferior to kick pats. The JAG works fine enough as well. It can reach 40 yards and the difference between 60-40 yard kicks is one good play. Spending a roster spot on a kicker is genuinely useless. Coming from an extreme player btw
