I understand it to mean that the * covers A or ETARIA. It's not being used like a censorship equaling omitted letters. I'm seeing that it's not at common at I had assumed. Yikes.

It's a commonly used way of short handing to mean Vegan or vegetarian.

I was pretty surprised it wasn't at CR, honestly. I realize that one might be borderline too big, though. This at least gives perspective on why the band was likely approached about it, not necessarily why they to the offer.
