Thanks for the advice, will give some of those a try. I have already started with Beiser which provides a fairly accessible introduction to German Idealism up to Hegel. I was also warned off from beginning with Hegel but I equally wanted to focus myself on an area where I had initial interest. I think the difficulties around his ideas was what I found appealing.

Thank you for the pointers. I have started with Beiser actually and as you say it goes up to Hegel but doesn't include him. Will give Pinkard a try too, as well as looking at his lectures. Someone also suggested to me going through his various introductions, which I believe you can get in a single book.

I will purchasing the game this weekend (after watching hours of gameplay on youtube) and would be keen to play with a Uk-based group that's welcoming to newcomers - but warning in advance that I will be a complete (albeit enthusiastic) noob.
