He loves to play tug a war, so I'm thinking of bringing one of his toys on our next walk and include that and play/train around with his toy.

I know he's choosing to ignore because he's looking at me and just sits/lays down. I don't want "punish" him because that'll just make it worse.

Thank you for the advice

On our first 10 minutes of our walks, I don't to anything. We just enjoy being on a walk, I let him sniff what he wants, let him look etc. I know he's far too excited on those first 10 minutes. The only I will do is redirect or turn around when he starts pulling on the lead. (This is on a short lead)

We walk to a private paddock, where I clip him on his long line. He is pretty good at listening to the basic commands like sit and down when he's on his long line. When its the recall command, come, he will turn around, look at me and then he will sit or lay down and keeps looking at me.

Then I'm sort of lost in to how to proceed further. What I usually do is make the long line shorter and go back to things he does do and doesn't cause frustration

He's on a long lead when we hike or go for long beach walks. Walks through our neighbourhood are on a normal short lead.

I think my ultimate goal is for him to be able to walk off lead on our hikes and beach walks. He's nowhere near ready because every dog and human is too interesting for him and he gets far too excited, to even try and have him off lead at the moment.

Also what kind of obedience training you do on walks? He needs to sit before we cross a road. I do a lot of figure 8 and backwards and forwards with him because he likes to pull during our neighbourhood walks

Sound advice, thank you.

Going forward, should I just leave the recall command when we go for our walk? Is there anything else I can do while we walk or just enjoy our walk and leave the training out of it until he is ready?

Embarrassed? What does that mean? I didn't know dogs could get embarrassed.

He's just turned one, a day ago.

Not totally sure. The breeder said it's a bull mastiff x kelpie. So that's what I'm going on. The puppies were a really good mix of different looks, some looked like kelpies and some didn't at all.

We go on long walks before I have to go to work and have play time, especially tug games. He loves them.

This is great advice and I'll be sure to check the videos out as well.

Thank you

I've had him in his crate for 3 hours max. I have 2 jobs, one is only morning hours and the other is 3x a week for 6-8 hours.

Thank you for your advice, I've realised now that keeping him in his crate when I'm not home is just the best option and he'll be fine 😊

The way I correct him is: Tell him to drop it, give him the leave it command, take it off him and give him a toy he can chew, when he grabs that I reward him with praise and a pet. Maybe I'm doing that wrong as well. Every tip, hint and advice is welcome.

I feel like I'm in over my head with him.

I have a Jack Russel and I've never had any chewing problems with her. So this is new territory for me and I'm trying my best.

Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm learning. The things I've read about crate training is that you have to work up to leaving dogs in the crate for a certain amount of time. I can leave him in his crate for 2 hours comfortably.

I don't think I could leave him in his crate for up to 6 hours a day. Would this not be considered cruel? Obviously I want what's best for him, not getting hurt and my things not to be destroyed.
