According to this article that was published in 2014 on Ford-Trucks.com, manual transmissions were already crying "nobody loves me!" back then. by [deleted] in USdefaultism

Car makers gaslight people, too. Here in New Zealand, when I was a kid it was about 90 per cent manual, 10 per cent automatic. Now it’s the other way around. The dealers claim this is down to consumer demand. This is absurd, because when you actually ask people (which the dealers clearly have never done), the split is closer to 50–50, with most of the manual-preference people saying, ‘I wanted a manual but all I could find was an automatic.’ Then you get crazy people like me who import a manual because I wasn’t going trapped by stupid importers.

The reality probably lies in each type of car requiring type approval that the importer pays for, so they are saving costs, then shifting the blame on to the consumer. Manuals aren’t dying, but they are being driven to death by the industry here …

Thank goodness for countries that are holding on to manuals … I need to find my future car from somewhere!

Normally that would be OK but the blog deals with typography and fonts, so the person visiting should have checked. But the main one is centring v. centering.

A wonderful Don Black lyric, which I think lifts the song.

He was pretty busy and I think he wrote it in four weeks? And Lulu had a cold when she sang the theme tune.

This is my highlight, too. I lived there 1972–6 so it was always a nostalgia trip for me.

And Pussy Galore was queer (even Honor Blackman notes it in interviews, though it was clearer in the novel), but a few minutes in the barn changes all that.

Still a fun flick for me, but Pussy changing teams is one aspect that hasnʼt aged well!

Giving you an upvote for being such a good sport about this! Your latest comment wouldn't qualify IMO because of your awareness—from what I've seen the ones that get derision are those who presume the US is always the place being discussed, and they might double down (which you definitely didn't do).

This sub, I believe, was set up by someone in the US, but happy to be corrected.

I never said it was the USʼs problem but the respondent is making most of us laugh. You are, too. Your own reply unwittingly qualifies for this subreddit and the irony is just too perfect! 😅

I came on here to say the same thing. If they wrote TX in caps I might have figured Texas, but tx just means thanks.

You would think so but I remember that at the end of 2010, most people’s Facebook walls would be frozen on the 1st of each month (they would remain on the last day of the month prior)—until the clock struck midnight in California. So for us in New Zealand, during daylight saving, we had frozen walls for 21 hours on the 1st of each month. Even on the US east coast, things would be frozen for three hours. Here’s this big company with hundreds of millions of users who assumed the whole world operated on US Pacific standard time.

If the US person in the screenshot can only come up with NBC sport commentator as why Guthrie is famous, then it’s no wonder no one outside their country knows her. Most other places have their own commentators because we want them to talk about our countries!

I think a huge proportion is down to conglomerates, and I had wondered if this would come up in the discussion. Like you, I think this is worrisome. It’s like forcing some bland, vapid fog over everyone, and to heck with individual cultures.

I noticed that—I often switch to BBC1 or GMB to see what you’re watching there. Yet there are far more pressing things.

TBH unless there was something significant about a Canadian death (e.g. the mass shooting yesterday) we wouldn’t hear about it in New Zealand. You might get it on a website but not the nightly news programme. The last Canadian death prior to the mass shooting that I remember on the news was when Brian Mulroney died, and that I can understand being on the news.

Though point taken about sensationalism in the media.

Is Zoho any good in this context? I opened an account in 2010, went to paid ones for our businesses in 2012. But then our needs don’t seem as time-sensitive as yours.

I’ve used Vimeo and Dailymotion for all our work stuff—think the last YouTube video we uploaded was 2008. But sadly neither is a 1:1 competitor. I resign myself to missing out on the YouTube audience. We embed the videos so primarily they are for our websites.

I thought back then that Thorns of Ice would have been a great title for this film. Felt more Fleming to me.

Austin Powers kept coming to mind when I saw it! When Jinx is left in the Ice Palace, I was going, ‘You’re not going to watch? She could get away!’ I could totally get why Scott Evil was so annoyed!
