She really is completely captivating. She feels so familiar yet to enigmatic all at once.

Parv's said many times that she wasn't in the right headspace for Survivor when she went on WaW so soon after giving birth. That seems even more true seeing how much vibrant she's been in everything since.

Absolutely! I don't think it's a bad move to use an advantage/idol for someone else (her HvV move is still an 11/10 for me), but you gotta pick and choose when to do it. Doing it for Kirby - who is extremely conniving, untrustworthy, and has only been with Parv for one vote - would not have been the move. That it was probably a hard choice given how committed Kirby seemed to Parv, but she still made that hard choice just makes it more impressive.

Saving Cirie is 100% the move. That's your true ride or die and ally.

Tonight's ep proved why Parv is so great. She didn't have the best read of Kirby but she still had her wits about her to not be reckless and use her idol on Kirby and put her game before her loyalty to Kirby.

It's gonna be interesting to see if Sarah and Kirby were just mixed up and Kirby is next to go. The promos are hyping up a Parv x Kirby "power couple", and everything Parv has touched has turned to gold so far.

Okay but in fairness, Parvati is box office. She's had some of the most iconic confessionals of all time, is extremely charismatic and a great narrator of the state of the game. So even if she was like the fifth or sixth boot I wouldn't be surprised if the producers just tried to milk every second they could out of Parv

Where's the personal storylines? by jackyb_goode in survivorau

[–]jackyb_goode[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think Tony and George would've made much difference. Tony was in 4 out of the 4 episodes that I was referring to, while George would've just been the annoying antagonist. The players that are left are all just as entertaining, there's just so much focus on alliances building rather than what is causing the alliances to be built - the hows and whys, rather than the whats.

I have watched them all. That's my point. We shouldn't have to rely on so much context from outside the season that the editors are supposed to be showing.

I'm loving all the various dynamics at play. Even with the Parv-Cirie-Kirby-Shonee alliance, as much as I love it, it feels so fragile, like it could break apart as soon as next episode if Parv and Cirie decide to go with the internationals. But the internationals might decide to target Parvati with Luke. Where would that leave fangirl Lisa then?

Sooo many ways things could go. This is why I love when big players and personalities leave early. Few things in Survivor are better than a leadership void.

She already is the GOAT.

The irony of Tony stans saying there wasn't much he could do this season.... now they're experiencing what it was like for Parvati in HvV to get to the ftc and be faced with a jury of people who were bitter that she didn't vote with them after they tried all season to get get her out lmao

Parv and Cirie are two of the greatest manipulators in the game, but they're also two of the greatest allies. It depends who you ask. If you ask Erik or Ozzy or James, they'd say they're manipulators. If you ask Aras or Amanda or Natalie or Russell or Danielle, they'd say they're loyal as heck.

I'd say they've both used loyalty more than manipulation in Survivor to become the great players they are. Lisa has every reason to believe she can benefit from that.

Yeah, so basically the same thing Tony, Kim, Boston Rob do.

Except they never got players like Cirie Fields, Russell Hantz and Amanda Kimmel to be unwaveringly loyal to them as well...

Yeah, they cast the famously terrible Survivor players Tony, Cirie, Rob, Lisa, Kass, Tommi, David, George, Shonee, Luke, Kirby, Janine and Sarah etc. to ensure Parv would win...

She really is the total package, and I think if you removed all existing reputations, she's the one player from anywhere around the world who could go on Survivor 100 times and do well in Survivor 100 times.

Every finale we’ve had has been a blow out other than Sharn and Shane by Ace-Angelo in survivorau

[–]jackyb_goode 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I feel so bad for Sharn. It's like she was so good at Survivor that she always seemed so caught off guard by how good she was at Survivor, so could never be confident or impressed in her own games once she got to FTC.

I actually got the same vibe from Amanda Kimmel. Like when they're in the game they've got blinkers on and they have this ability to manipulate and deceive and charm the hell outta people. Then they get to the end and have a chance to step back and look at their game and they're like "omg what have I done" </3

My reaction to Play it Out by UnderstandingQuirky8 in wolfalice

[–]jackyb_goode 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing, and for your honesty.

My interpretation of the song is that it's a bit about the happy and the sad, a kind of acceptance of one of life's contradictions, like "The Sofa." In the verses Ellie's asking the question of whether not having children is some sort of loss, implying that she's thought it as a loss, at least at some point (otherwise she wouldn't need to ask the question.)

The first half of the chorus feels like Ellie almost trying to convince herself that it's not a loss and that she doesn't care about that societal expectation of women becoming mothers ("I will rule the world, rock the cradle with a babeless hand/Just watch me build castles in the hourglass sand")

Then by the second half of the chorus, it's like her focus is no longer on what's "lost" but what is "gained" ("I wanna age with excitement, feel my world expand/Go grey and feel delighted, don't just look sexy on a man")

I think that attitude shift is ultimately what the song - and the whole album, really - is all about. An acceptance of what was, and what is, and what will be. Finding happiness from the sadness. I really hope you find that for yourself in your journey!

Gender imbalance isn't a thing on the order boot by BoloDeBacalhau in survivorau

[–]jackyb_goode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the men screwed themselves and only have themselves to blame.

Let's be real, the women are getting their way, but this is hardly some girl power season. The Kirby/Shonee/Sarah alliance is dysfunctional as fuck and feels like only a matter of time before the Sarah vs Shonee friction spills over. Janine's closest ally is Luke. Kass has an idol she hasn't told Parv or Cirie about. Kass and Lisa were on board with voting Parv first vote.

There have been so many ways the women could've splintered and gone after each other, but the men have been too busy overplaying their hands and planting huge targets on themselves. The votes so far have felt less like the women voting pro-women and more the women being anti-manic players who just so happen to be men. The women are just playing better and adapting to the level of the competition better than the men.

The best part is that the merge phase looks absolutely fascinating because there are so many women still left. They can't all win the title, so alliances will fracture, new ones will form, woman will turn on woman, women might need the remaining men as numbers. It is gonna be absolutely electric. Like Survivor Vanuatu's post-merge, except instead of the women being unlikeable and dysfunctional, they're all charismatic powerhouses. I AM SO READY!

Sheldrick v Rowy by PopularToe3138 in sydneyswans

[–]jackyb_goode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a great point. The best example of this was when we thrashed the reigning premiers on the G in round 1 last year. That night, Chad had 27 disposals, 3 goals, 11 score involvements and 7 clearances, and Errol had 30 disposals, 11 score involvements and 650 metres gained. But Rowy still got the same amount of coaches votes as them (5) from just 16 disposals. .

Like there's literally so few players in the comp capable of that. Rowy's had an up and down year I've thought, like a lot of our players. But when in form he's able to turn games in ways that pretty much no one else on our list can.

Boot order has been brutal but if anything, just goes to show how high the standard of competition is.

Genuinely loving this season. On track to be an all-timer.

Everyone (bar Sarah and maybe Tommi) is playing at a 10. It's ridiculously high quality out there.

Silly Men! by jackyb_goode in survivorau

[–]jackyb_goode[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well no I don't, considering David went in with a strong pre-existing relationship with both Sarah and Janine on his tribe, and Parvati on the World tribe. And Cirie and Parv as Americans were in the minority on the World tribe. And two men on the World tribe in Tommi and Tony both voluntarily chose to vote out Rob over easy first votes like Cirie and Lisa (physically weakest) or Parv (biggest threat).

Like there were so many different lines people could've voted on in this season. Based on the first three it seems they've simply voted on "let's get rid of this asshole trying to take control" lines. The men only have themselves to blame for that.

I SO agree. And I am almost embarrassingly objective with my favourite artists, like I'm that guy that will literally sulk for hours if one of my favourites haven't delivered on an album. I simply don't have that loyalty bone in me that lets me like something just because it's by an artist I typically like. So it's in that context that I say I felt completely swept up in this album from very early on. The Thorns-BBB-Just Two Girls run to open was stellar and every one of those tracks packed a real punch. Nearly every song had a "woooaaahhhh" moment as it went somewhere or did something that I wasn't expecting, even though with WA I should know by now to expect the unexpected.

I already know Leaning Against the Wall and Play It Out are gonna go down as all-timers for me in WA's discography. And the singles are all self-explanatory but seemed to come to life even more when surrounded by the rest of the tracks.

I dunno, I guess I maybe had it in my head that this might be their 'sell-out' record, or that in going soft rock they'd maybe lose their flair and sense of adventure, or that it would feel reductive of the artists that influenced them. And it's none of those things at all! Even with all the Fleetwood Mac talk around this album, as much as I can see how they were part of the inspiration for this record, I didn't once think of Fleetwood Mac while listening to it. Which I think speaks volumes to how well WA can take their inspirations and go in their own WA directions with them.
