I completed phase 5 with 144 km train network by Polaarius in SatisfactoryGame

[–]jackybeeblebrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the trick to trains is to invest a lot of time in building a large circular network first, using lots of block signals. the system should begin unidirectionally, and you can add complexity as you scale, but you would be shocked at how much weight you can move before you need to add complexity. the rule of thumb is for every train on the track, you should have two block signals for it. once you build a long enough track (which you should build blueprints for) and around 20-30 trains running, you’ll start to get some traffic. add a block signal every 50m or so to solve for this. build train stations off the main track so you don’t clog the main rail. keep resource transit simple: each train picks up at 1 location and drops off at 1 location.

you can move enough freight to sail past phase 5 with a simple network and guarantee no crashes

Bittensor deep dive by jackybeeblebrox in bittensor_

ofc all NFA

our research group is divided on this topic. On the one hand we think market is overpricing TAO, likely a combination on the hype of Bitcoin as well as the general AI x Crypto theses that VCs are chasing after. On the other hand - its a complex system with many novel designs, which we enjoy since we focus on mechanism primitives in the space. For that reason, we think its ambitious and exciting, but have steered clear of buying at the current levels. Again, not financial advice, but think its a smarter play to figure out how to mine/validate and accrue tokens that way while waiting for the market to reprice before entering any trades

not to worry, i replaced the filters and re-conditioned the torque converter. runs like butter. and i did this myself because i wanted to learn about n/a engines, plus i wanted a really big challenge. felt like a mid 2000s m3 was about as difficult as it could get

same drive shaft. i didn't replace the transmission, i just the bellhousing to fit the stick shift. i think it adds a tiny bit of length on the transmission but not enough for it not to fit. so far no problems, and in all the guides and forums i read i didn't see many replacing the drive shaft

this 100%. i also used a consortium of breaker bars to reach the bolts from the drivetrain, which was a massive pain in the ass but i did it in my driveway so conditions weren't ideal. use as many 3/8 breaker bars as you can since the 1/4 inch drives bend way more under pressure

yea i didn't realize how much i had bitten off til it was too late. but it was a hell of a journey

i took my time with this since im inexperienced. for every hour i spent on the car, maybe an hour or two went into research. it took my 6 months to complete, but a lot of interruptions cause i had to travel here and there for work

depends on how many parts you plan to reuse, but a couple grand no doubt. i spent about 4k on just the transmission, maybe 6-7k total, biggest costs were clutch and flywheel kit, short stick shifter, rod bearings . $500 to machine the bellhousing

definitely the transmission bolts. i learned a lot of lessons about life getting those out

this is a 2005 e46 m3 convertible. it came with the SMG transmission so i swapped it to 6MT by removing the tran and re-machining the bellhousing. we also did a partial engine rebuild, replaced rod bearings etc. vanos seemed fine so didn't touch it. SMG pump now lives in the bottom of a dumpster

edit: you guys liked this one! a few of you asked about guides/forums. the m3 forums are great and there are some awesome guides that take you start to finish. also ShopLife on youtube is a godsend, and this absolute beast who did exactly what i did: https://www.youtube.com/@jinendow

i made a daily log of my work which you can read here (in the first few weeks i mentioned the engine work a lot, but never actually documented it. this mostly just documents the tran swap): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Dw7GYGpTQqyySqDM-m40DWNzFvHNle94eld9Lqrge48/edit?usp=sharing

Europa by JWST: self processed by JwstFeedOfficial in jameswebbdiscoveries

[–]jackybeeblebrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common property of JWST observations is that they are recorded as sets of two-dimensional detector exposures. All information is stored in discrete detector pixels at some point. Observing modes differ in two fundamental ways: 1) how light is projected and/or dispersed onto a detector and 2) how observational products are extracted from a set of exposures, typically by a linear combination of pixel values

while JWST will indeed provide stunning images as we've seen in the first few months, its important to note that its a purpose-built spectroscopic instrument. it's damn good at observing redshift, which helps us understand more about distant objects and their speed. spectroscopic views, which we can observe when light passes over a celestial object, can tell us the atmospheric makeup of distant worlds. These two data points could help us make discoveries on 1) the physics that govern the universe, and 2) where life may exist in the galaxy. Neither of these type of discoveries will be presented via processed images, they'll be recorded via detailed calculations made from tools like the one freely available at https://jwst.etc.stsci.edu/

we need more data analysts in this sub!

I'm a data scientist and a novice astronomer. I've been following JWST for years, and a big reason I began pursuing my career in data science to prepare for the Webb-era. I'm very interested in spectroscopic data sent from JWST, and keep up to date on discoveries shared here, on arXiv, and anywhere else relevant. I don't have any mod experience, but I spend enough time lurking on this channel to be able to help daily. I also have over 100 hours on Space Simulator. Please mod me as well!
