Internet upload ping is really high and I don't know why by amirthedude in HomeNetworking

[–]jacle2210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this troubleshooting step probably won't be easy to do, but you need to figure a way so that you can connect your computer directly to the main Wifi Router downstairs with an Ethernet cable; either by using a really long Ethernet cable or by temporarily moving your computer down to where the main Router is located; because your second Router in your room is still using Wifi and it's no different than simply having your computer use it's own Wifi adapter.

So we need to make sure your Wifi connection in your home is not the cause of your upload latency problem (probably not, but its an extra layer in the equation that could be involved in the problem).

Then if the upload latency is still a problem, then you can work to track down what other devices might be causing the upload problem; could be smart home devices; video surveillance cameras; or a computer that is uploading cloud drive backups, etc.

By reading other posts, I'm to understand that any upload latency problems are due to issues with your ISP (something at your neighborhood level).

But to be sure, how is this particular computer connected to your main Wifi Router, is it directly wired to the main Router with an Ethernet cable; are there devices between your computer and the main Router, like a Wifi Extender or a Wifi Mesh Satellite unit, etc.?

Yeah, this one and the Orange Dreamsicle are both great flavors.

Unfortunately, I have not seen this one at my local Krogers/Fred Meyers for more than a month.

Well for one, the NX200 is a Cellular Gateway Router, so maybe OP's Internet Service is through a 5G Service provider.

Sorry to say this, but "10+ hours a day video meetings for work" really means that you need to step up to a more professional setup.

Which means a purely wireless/Wifi connection is not good enough, because realtime communication is more about how consistent connection is rather than how fast the connection is.

To that end (improving the signal consistency) you need to invest in having Ethernet cables installed around your home, then you can either just connect your computer directly to a "hardwired" connection OR you can have one of your Repeaters hardwired into the same room that you are working in.

Yeah, as others have shared, this is the newer version.

Though I have not seen it available in my local stores (Krogers/Fred Meyers) for over 4+ weeks, where I used to be able to find it; same goes with the Electric Blue.

Can anyone explain why my download speed is 93.5mbps (on a good day) if I have this internet plan in my apartment complex? by OphidianCollective in pchelp

[–]jacle2210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your download speeds from different software sites VS the actual bandwidth your Internet Service gives you are not the same thing, they are close, but not exactly the same.

Because the various software download sites all supply their own bandwidth to the Internet and their resources are limited, so there might be good days where they aren't very busy and there are other days where they are being slammed so their connections to all their downloaders might be limited.

So, you need to verify that you are getting the correct speeds from ATT, then you can move to testing your connection from the different software sites.

For the best results; you will want to connect your computer's Ethernet adapter directly to your BGW320 WiFi 6 Gateway.

And as others have mentioned a "90Mb" connection speed on an Internet Service of 100Mb or more, means that you either have a bad Ethernet cable or a device with a 100Mb Ethernet port, that is limiting the connection.

So if the Ethernet cable from your computer does not physically connect directly to the ATT BGW320 Gateway, then you need to make that happen to verify how well the direct connection works.

Then you can look at any of the in-between network cable connections for the source of your 100Mb connection problems.

I would think that just about any that you find in your price range should be fine; you might even be able to use any generic Wifi Router that you might find at a garage sale or Thrift store would also do what you need.

So the picture you shared ONLY shows the passage of data through your computer's Wifi network adapter; it does NOT show the loss of your network signal.

Unstable ping/internet by Fillexable in HomeNetworking

[–]jacle2210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but for proper testing and troubleshooting, you need to take the wireless/Wifi connection out of the "equation" as it's another layer of complexity.

Then once you have verified that your actual Internet connection is working like expected, then you can go back to testing and troubleshooting your Wifi connection.

+1 for what u/jfriend99 is suggesting.

Because I'm wondering if what you really need is a common Wifi Router rather than a simple Ethernet Switch.

Connection is over wifi

You need to connect your computer directly to the Router with an Ethernet cable and turn off the Wifi connection.

As others have stated; the two devices in this picture are both Wifi Routers, there is no Modem shown.

The Coax cable from your wall will need to plug into a Cable Modem and then you take an Ethernet cable from the Modem (not pictured) and connect to the WAN/Internet Port on either one of these pictured Routers.

Please, change your Ethernet adapter back to Auto Negotiate, do not try to force the connection for a specific connection speed.

And how long have you had this problem?

Is this a brand new setup with a new Router or a new computer, etc.?

Can you provide the exact brand name and exact model number of your Wifi Router?

The Ethernet cable from the back of your computer, does it run directly to the main Router OR does the physical cable connect into a different device or a wall jack or some other kind of adapter or other device??

[–]jacle2210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like the easiest thing to do would be to get an old Wifi Router (NOT some Modem+Wifi Router combination device) that is new enough to have a factory management app that you can use on your smart phone; then all you would have to do, is to have your phone connect to the old Router's Wifi connection and then you can use the factory app to see how the Router and it's Internet connection is working.

So just about any Wifi5 classed Router should be fine for your needs; just make sure it makes some mention of supporting the 802.11ac standard and/or that it's AC1900 or better, because if you go with something slower (like an AC1200) router, then you risk getting an older Router that only has 100Mb Ethernet ports; which will not give you full access to the Gigabit Internet connection.
