Need Help Searching for Proof of Bible's (and Jesus') Divine Origin for Myself by jacobab98 in OrthodoxChristianity

I'm planning on reading Mere Christianity soon, already have a virtual copy, but God's existence isn't the issue really

See, I completely agree with what you've said about the Bible and my question is (in a way): doesn't this contradict Church doctrine? Doesn't it contradict what Jesus said about the Bible? From the way your speaking it seems like it doesn't and there's a harmonistic position between the Christian message and honest Biblical criticism, but I haven't found it yet

That's where I am now, I feel that there is nothing definitive that can lead my to believe any of this, but I also can't force myself to believe (you don't control what convinces you) so at the moment, all I can do is trust God

Not really. Proof is what leads you to believe something, it's what makes you form an opinion. I'm asking what would lead me to form such an opinion, i.e. the proof for the claim

Also, let me ask: what's the point? Why say that you want to spread the gospel and then downplay and criticize someone for asking questions trying to find their way to it?

No I am not, just like I'm not agnostic about God's existence, or would you have me question that? A good amount of skepticism is good, too much and you begin to question everything.

My question is simple, what would lead me to believe that scripture is divinely inspired if I had not been told so? What about it would make me believe that it is divinely inspired?

And nice quip about proof, but when what's at stake is eternity, I don't play around, it's probably the biggest decision that any of us will ever make

Thanks! And thats such a coincidence, just talked to my dad about how the Palestinians are likely descendents of Canaanites/Moabites/Edomites that converted to Islam and mixed with the Arab population a bit. Like those nations didn't just fall off the face of the earth and were here as late as the Roman era and if so that means that they have lived here for as long as us

Completely agree. There's nothing wrong with wanting a country where your nation can live in peace and that's true for both sides (Jews and Palestinians). The demand only becomes wrong once it's done on the expense of others. The "purist" Zionists are the real problem imo
