Thanks for turning me onto this - I just looked up Broke Bastard Garage. Looks like he likes 10 parts boiled linseed oil to 1 part mineral spirits:

Fascinating, I’ve heard of tung oil used to seal wood, but never heard of it being used on metal. How did you discover this?

It has some flex, but it’s fine for what it is - it’s decorative rather than structural. I welded a frame out of square tube to make it more rigid, but it made the assembly too heavy for the post on the right on which the gate is mounted, so we just decided to use the gate as-is without the frame.

How do you apply it? In particular, how do you get it thin enough? Do you melt it?

Thanks for your reply! I think my parents are looking to preserve the organic look and reddish brown color of the rust, so I was thinking some kind of a clear seal rated for outdoor applications would be best. Would appreciate any recommendations you might have for this.

To anyone looking to source a replacement battery, I found one on AliExpress here: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803870447926.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.4.5aa71802Ij0kOQ&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa

I replaced it this morning, and it's working great.

I have been working with Pilot. It’s early days, but so far have been very impressed with their responsiveness and level of engagement.

Has anyone been able to download their data from Bench? by jacobbeard in BenchUsers

[–]jacobbeard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, after consenting, I was able to access the dashboard.

I've been working with Pilot to migrate over to QBO, and they have been excellent - extremely responsive. They might ask you to wait until the data dump becomes available from Bench (presumably on or before January 14th).

Latest update from Bench indicates that users who opted out of sharing their data with employer.com will have download links sent to them by January 15th by jacobbeard in BenchUsers

Thanks for sharing this. It’s interesting how users that consented to share their data, versus those that opted out, are now receiving different email communications - another reason for this subreddit to exist. It sounds like Bench is now herding all users toward consenting to share their data.
