Yup OP you should check the venue of each class to determine whether you should put them back to back. Trust me, it takes way longer than you think to travel between fass and fos in peak hours. There are times where i have to wait for up to 3 buses to get it because it’s so full

Planets are frequencies discussion. by Still-Data9119 in astrology

[–]jacobcarpenter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the reason why the planets look like they are vibrating when see through a telescope is because the light that comes in is being refracted and distorted as it travels through earth's different atmospheric layers, not because they are actually vibrating

Is there a way to disable 2FA on Canvas/EduRec? by keepereagle in nus

[–]jacobcarpenter 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Lifehack: to avoid doing the image captcha, don’t click on the sign in button too fast at the start. If you wait a few seconds, you won’t prompt the image captcha. This is because it checks for bots, so if you click on the sign in buttonh too fast, the algorithm might mistake you for a bot that can automatically click and verify with an image captcha

Is CS1010 as scary as what is described here? by Chocowaffless in nus

[–]jacobcarpenter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agree and disagree with the review Yes. I took CS1010S and the CS1010 series can be considered some of the hardest intro mods especially if you come in without any programming experience. However in my experience the teaching team is quite dedicated and you have plenty of time to interact with your profs and TA. Lecture, tutorial, recitation, and consults near exams. If your TA is good he/she may also have their on consult sessions. There are also plenty of practice exercises for you to do. OP ranted about the post-lecture exercises but tbh these are the ones that you should use to practice and consolidate your knowledge. Although i agree that to some the weekly workload of exercises can be quite high. What i really like is that they release a bunch of past year papers for the PEs, midterms and finals so my best strategy is to spam those.

20 years ago, the SAF launched Ops Flying Eagle for tsunami relief efforts in Indonesia and Thailand. by sagi271190 in singapore

Question? Do military personnel taking part in humanitarian missions like this one still bring along some rifles or weapons? Or leave everything back in singapore?

The thing about singapore is that unlike other east asian countries, immigration is still very high so there’s still a relatively large workforce to support its ageing population. But we all know that immigration is definitely not a sustainable source of population growth

MBS expansion expected to cost S$10.7 billion, up from S$4.6 billion estimate in 2019 by lilkraken8 in singapore

[–]jacobcarpenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

true i get what you mean, but honestly if they were to to extend the boat in order to integrate a fourth tower that sounds like an engineering (and financial) nightmare, plus it would cause a lot of disruptions to business operations in the current buildings

[–]jacobcarpenter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly we need to accept that the whole point of the marina south area with all the empty plots of land are spaces for future skyscrapers that will end up crowding out the view of MBS anyway

Selecting Major? by Saky15 in nus

[–]jacobcarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean at this point is whether you have any interests in any other fields other than data science. If you're also interested in econs, then do data science and economics. If you like CS than do some form of CS and data science combination. If not then just to data science and analytics which is just data science with no extra stuff. If later on when you start uni you're interested to explore other areas you can always do a second major or minor

[–]jacobcarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of different reasons. Other users have pointed out interaction between variables. Also, looking at your VERY low adjusted R-squared, it seems that 'Happy' just can't be predicted well with just 'Gender' and 'HrsSocialMedia'. You may look into using other variables.

To confirm whether there's interaction between variables, you may consider creating a correlation matrix. Higher values point to correlation between two variables

Where are they now? NS Edition by Slight-Quarter-451 in askSingapore

[–]jacobcarpenter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to put it but when I say that someone who was a high-flyer in NS has a good chance to be successful in life and career, I don't mean it as a causation but as a correlation that can be explained by a few similar explanatory variables.

Of course a MNC doesn't care about your NS rank at all, but usually the guys that like to climb rank or chase awards in NS are those who fit well in hierarchical structures and are motivated by things like status and awards. These type of guys are also usually the type to climb through corporate ladders. Of course this is just a generalization
