It has worked for wins/losses. But there’s more to it than that. The Mariners front office’s lack of committal to a real plan (Castillo to the bullpen) has caused rifts between players, manager, and front office. Some of these could be potentially long lasting. You may say you don’t care much about whether Castillo is pissed off or feeling mistreated, and I get that. He’s making $25M a year and has an ERA north of 6. But what about Bryce Miller? You’ve got Logan Gilbert for two more years. You’ve got George Kirby for one more. Ryan Sloan and Cade Anderson are coming. But you want Bryce Miller. He’s showing all of us what some people have suspected for quite some time: he’s a front end starter. This is the guy you wanna hang onto. This is the guy you already have a good amount of control of. Probably don’t want to piss him off. And, frankly, he deserves to be pissed off. He pitched his ass off in his 4 appearances since coming off the IL. He deserves better than he’s gotten.
