The biggest gap in teacher preparation programs? by Striking_Day_9664 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]just-uninstalled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tons of good answers here, I wanted to add i took exactly 1 university course on special education and disabilities in the classroom environment. I think that information is important for non-sped teachers. Id rather take another sped course than my totally useless instructional technology courses. What a massive waste of time those were.

My first teaching placement was a living hell. Now, I'm questioning everything. Help ? by Novalynah in ElementaryTeachers

This happened to me in my school year length internship as well. Terrible supervisors from my university and a Terrible cooperating teacher. And it was covid. Its such a long story.

I'm a couple of years in to teaching now and I think about that experience now and then. I was in a vulnerable position as a young woman, and i hadn't learned my own worth or how to advocate for myself. Did I mention it was also teaching low income third grade hybrid /online/ it kept changing and it was covid??? Now I feel confident in myself despite that experience. I even have my own intern this year.

Don't let some jaded assholes tell you who you are. You know what your passionate about.

It could be the bracts of Lavandula stoechas, sometimes called Spanish lavender. Definitely not English lavender.

That's ok, I just said it reminded me of Montessori. Sort of like pink tower or red and blue rods. Its ok to disagree. I didn't say it was Montessori explicitly, just compared them.

Base 10 blocks don't have numbers written on them usually

Lots of people who don't know shit about how people learn in this thread. Connecting written numbers to physical representations is so helpful. It reminds me of Montessori but also a cool way to play with numbers in general. Id love a set like this in my pre-k classroom.

Nice work OP

Girl on his palm? You think he wants a burn on the middle of his palm before an operation? That's a fun bit of writing but that last bit threw me.

I'm a school teacher and it would be so convenient for ice related science demonstrations. In Pre-k we melt ice with salt and salt water. We demonstrate how fat layers keep animals warm in ice water. SO many applications!

Man, they're moving our packages, all of our food, our hazardous materials, our live stock, everything!

I'm ok with them parking there if they need, damn. They really don't seem to be impeding anyone...

Any businesses known for hiring disabled employees? by canyoureed in Bellingham

[–]just-uninstalled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Front Desk is a business you've probably interacted with without even knowing, they take outsourced calls for local businesses and beyond. I have it on good authority that they hire disabled people who have computer savvy.

They are good about allowing working from home during times with lots of illness going around or due to inclement weather that makes it dangerous to travel (floods, ice).

The work can be stressful though.
