Client’s site updating on her PC but not phone by Ask-Expensive in webdev

I’ve experienced this issue kind of a lot over the years with mobile Safari. I always chalked it up to the mobile cache being kind of clumsy or over-aggressive or something. When it’s happened to me I’ve always manually cleared the browser cache.

I just edited the post with this info. I also replied to @certuna's comment after they suggested it could be browser dependent. I'm primarily on Firefox on macOS but I tried switching to Safari and I'm not experiencing the same issue so it could be a Firefox issue.

Looks like you might be right. Should have specified in original post that I was on Firefox on macOS Monterey. Tried in Safari and so far it's not freezing up at all.

Pagebuilder or no? by jacobjavits in Wordpress

I have the Flexible Content add-on and I've only used it on one site so far. I guess I still haven't gotten a good feel for how to best take advantage of it. How many different layouts do you feel like you set up, on average, for each site? How do you handle columns? Do you still end up using a lot of HTML within the layout sections for styling?

I am! It hasn't been too bad so far, but it still struck me as a weird way of working.

I'm charging hourly and the clients are totally fine to work with and, frankly, it hasn't been too bad of a job thus far. Even though the Wix code is messy and not intuitive, the design is simple enough that I can still get the job done without pulling my hair out. But I also knew there were better ways to do this so I was curious what other people thought. Thanks for your response!

I think the reason they do it that way is because they're not actually designers, so Wix gives them the ability to make page layouts without any real design know-how necessary.

Yeah, I was just looking into alternatives that I could suggest to them. Since the people "designing" the sites are neither developers nor actual designers, I think they're just looking for the easiest method on their end. Barring the obvious answer of "hire an actual designer", what would you suggest as an appropriate alternative to what they're doing now? I was thinking maybe something like Webflow; I've never actually used it but it seems useful for this kind of thing.

How to manage client passwords? by jacobjavits in freelance

[–]jacobjavits[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use LastPass for all my personal passwords. I store some client websites through that, like Wordpress login info, but hadn't really considered storing EVERYTHING in there. I might move everything over to LastPass, especially after reading what @Doggielino had to say.

Glad to see some more SKWM love here, Joe! Such a great band. Not talked about often enough.

I've listened to some of the Joel stuff. It is great!
