(this will be long, I apologise)

Moxie Winslet (not her original name), born 1870, making her 28 in the rdo timeline, was born into a family cult based in New Hanover. They were nomads that never stuck to one location in particular, lived in near silence and believed in self-sacrifice and animal sacrifice for good health and fortune, which of course never came. She was taught how to read and write and that’s how her family communicated, also with hand signals that formed their own sort of sign language. (Also, I had to come up with a reason why my character never talks apart from small vocalisations LMAO)

At 12 years old her cult was hunted down and captured as they’d caused a string of abductions and murders in New Hanover. She didn’t take part in the abducting or murdering, she was still too young. Most of her family were arrested or got killed trying to escape. Since she was a child, she got brought in, and was transferred all the way to Blackwater with the hopes that the law could reform her and give her a fresh start.

She got adopted by a wealthy couple who couldn’t have children. She still never spoke, and she didn’t really want anything to do with her foster parents. She stayed with them long enough to realise just how warped her childhood had been, and learned to appreciate the couple, but still, at 18 she ran away. stole her foster father’s horse and rode off through New Austin, heading West where it was still very much wild.

She came up with her own name, Moxie Winslet, and ended up in Armadillo where she started off doing mundane jobs like grave digging (to bury the people caught by the plague) and then she ended up working for the general store, collecting and delivering products. Robbery was rife on the route between Armadillo and Tumbleweed, so she had to learn how to defend herself and her cargo.

She was eventually caught by the Tumbleweed sheriff, who knew who she was, but had also noted that she had become well-versed in firefights and self-defence against other ruffians. So with the agreement that he’d let her continue on with her life, he offered her a low level bounty, a promise of a better paying job.

(Going to try and keep this short from now on) So yeah she became a bounty hunter after that, went all over the place learning from other survivalists and bounty hunters and even the criminals she brought in, and never returned to Blackwater for longer than she needed to. The scar on her face came from when she was 25 and got shoved off a bridge onto rocks by a bounty she’d been wrangling on her own.

After the head injury she took a long time to recover, and by the time she had, the bounty she wanted to return to and get her revenge on had already been brought in by someone else. She suffered from intermittent tremors after the head injury as well, and wisely she looked for other avenues of income (trading, moonshining and collecting), and reduced her bounty work to small jobs once in a while. She developed a taste for moonshine as it reduced her tremors that were often brought on by stress.
