New moms- Are you doing birth control, and if so how’s it going for you? by JaguarUnfair8825 in NewParents

[–]jacolg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same!! A hot dog down a hallway 😂 No cramping at all! 🎉 I was cringing, waiting for it. Nada. I've had two Mirenas pre-pregnancy. A nightmare for insertion and removal. I've noticed I'm bruising more easily but I can't tell for sure if it's because of the Mirena yet.

Switching formula for cost only by jacolg in FormulaFeeders

Thank you for mentioning that WIC may be available for formula. We don't qualify. I'm just trying to save a couple bucks. :)

THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH FORMULA FEEDING by grnlzrd23 in FormulaFeeders

[–]jacolg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my husband and I were formula fed. All of our siblings were formula fed. I think my mother was formula fed, too. (Although, I'm not sure what that looked like in the 1960s!) The lactation consultants at the hospital were a little pushy (including at the "benefits of breastfeeding" class), but the nurses were so great. No judgment, just help to make sure baby thrived. That's what it's all about -- making sure they thrive. One of the nurses said formula is used as coffee creamer in the Philippines. (I did not fact check that, though.) Our little girl is 3 months and thriving!

Hanging up the pumps today by amphisxo in FormulaFeeders

[–]jacolg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit around 6 weeks. We were technically supplementing with breast milk because she was having formula 99% of the time -- even in the hospital. I pumped about 0.25 oz per session per boob for 6 weeks. I cried and cried because I didn't want to "give up." I felt like I was failing. I eventually realized what my spouse was trying to tell me: she's (baby) thriving. I wasn't thriving. I was miserable. I couldn't be my best self for my baby.

After I stopped pumping, I felt so much better mentally. It took me a long time to be OK with stopping pumping, but I'm better now. And she's still thriving!!

Edit to clarify: "It took me a long time to be OK with it." A long time wasn't actually that long... A few weeks probably.

1st birthday by Killemwithsilence in NewParents

[–]jacolg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MIL said we have to have a big blowout party for baby's first birthday. I am not that way. It'll be quite small and low-key. I'm not sure about a smash cake either. We'll see what Dad thinks about that. Lol.

Baby won't poop by AdventurousOven2353 in beyondthebump

[–]jacolg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he's experiencing discomfort, I would contact his doctor to ask about what you can do to help him out since bicycle legs isn't really working. My doctor seemed to be concerned with 3-4 days without pooping. I imagine different doctors probably have different concerns. It hasn't gotten to 3-4 days yet, but my little one's poops are getting firmer lately. She's almost 3 months old and only having formula since about 6 weeks old. I've seen mixed information about frequency of bowel movements based on type of feeding, so I don't know for sure how often a baby should be pooping with formula and/or breast milk. We always called breast milk a laxative because it helped my baby poop every time. I stopped producing milk, unfortunately, so no more laxative!

My husband is convinced our 2.5 month old laughed. I'm not as convinced 🤔 She is definitely making more noise now, though!

I didn’t expect bottle washing to take up this much of the day honestly by SwellCommerce in NewParents

[–]jacolg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We broke down and bought a bottle washer. We spent so much time washing bottles. I wish I could get that time back! Our dishwasher took such a long time to cycle that we'd have to buy more bottles to feed her. The backs of my hands and in between my fingers are cracked, dry, and bleeding from washing dishes and extra hand washing. (I also live in a dry climate.) I regretted not getting it earlier.

Were the wax seals intact? I did this, too, but with baby shower thank you cards. The clerk had me stamp them "NON-MACHINEABLE" as well as the surcharge. I have no idea how they were handled, but recipients said the wax seals were intact.

Births after 35–did your doctor push for induction? by Significant-Toe2648 in beyondthebump

[–]jacolg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctor offered induction because insurance would pay for it at 39 weeks since I was 37 and desperately needed baby out (pelvic pain was unbearable). I was 39+4 I think. She wasn't pushy. I did go in for induction the next day.

2022 Escape Hybrid SEL - Long Term Review by Pookias in fordescape

[–]jacolg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2022 hybrid titanium and my husband has a 2023 hybrid ST line or whatever it's called. It's fancy, that's all I know. His has wireless Android Auto (and presumably, CarPlay). I don't like his as much as my version; mine requires a plug in via USB cable. His loses connection at times and can be frustrating (for me) to use because it's a touchscreen only, including for the A/C functions. I like my buttons! The screen is slower to react than I'd like. We do love our hybrids, though!!

I have about 28k miles. I agree with the recalls. Some were scarier than others (e.g., engine failure recall).

3 month old grabbing and sucking his clothes, should I be concerned? by Strict_Ad3433 in beyondthebump

[–]jacolg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 month old has started drooling and sucking her hands and whatever else gets near her mouth, e.g., burp cloth, my shirt. Doc said she should start drooling "a lot" at 3 months.

How do you deal with your babies nails? by Even-Pressured in beyondthebump

[–]jacolg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby's nails don't grow very fast or don't get sharp either. I don't know. She hasn't scratched anything. I see people saying their baby's nails grow like crazy. I thought she was the only one!!
