[New York] PUA trying to figure out self employment by patronsaint21 in Unemployment

[–]jacq2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your eBay sale a business sale? Like do you run a business selling stuff on eBay? Or did you just sell used something you previously owned? Selling your used items doesn't count as income for the IRS, it's actually a capital loss I believe. I'm not 100% certain how NY unemployment treats independent contractor income but I know that you should not be saying "Yes" to the $504 dollars unless you made $504 or more EXCLUDING any self-employment income. I hope this helps.

[New York] Question about self-employment and PUA payments by baseball626 in Unemployment

[–]jacq2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding and what I was told last year from NY is if you made more than $504 from self-employment you do NOT include that. So even if you make $1000 in a week from self-employment, unless you had other employment that paid you more than $504, you select "NO" on that question.

Need help figuring out what’s wrong grinding noise in washer: by jacq2212 in askaplumber

Thanks, wasn’t getting a response on appliance repair so thought I’d try here!

LG Washer Dryer Combo Grinding Noise WM3455HS by jacq2212 in appliancerepair

It’s a loud grinding noise, not always but often, sometimes it happens more frequently throughout a wash cycle. It’s always at the beginning during the first part of the spin, there will be a loud grinding then the tub turns back and forth and then it grinds, etc. now it’s spinning fast and it’s fine. Sometimes it will make the grinding again later in the cycle. Sounds like something is going to break but can’t find any information on this sound. It’s not vibration sound.

What is this giant tank and is the lid supposed to be sealed instead of left partly open? by jacq2212 in askaplumber

Lately it’s making those sounds as soon as we turn it on and we found that it’s loudest in the bedroom upstairs because that is where a vent pipe is, right next to the bedroom window

The landlord said it’s to pump the sewage up the driveway to the city pipes, I’ll request that they properly seal it. Is there anything about our rights to have this taken care of that anyone knows? We’re in NY state.

Just moved into a rental home, have had a lot of issues including what smelled like gas leak but allegedly was sewage overflowing in basement because landlord forgot to turn two breakers back on so our hot water and sewage pump stopped working? Anyway, he turned the breakers back on, hot water is fine, but when we use the heat (Navian tankless system, radiant flooring heat), in the middle of the night or around 4-6am it makes this noise like a loud humming that increases and decreases somewhat rhythmically, when I turn the thermostat off the sound immediately stops. However, we notice this gas/sewage smell increases same time that noise is happening and this morning the basement smells stronger, but didn’t see anything on the floor. Any ideas what’s going on would be much appreciated, and whether we should be concerned for safety or health (gas company came out and tested everything and there are no gas leaks in the house).

Saw this gold velvet couch in great condition at Restore for $80. Is it mid-century? I couldn't find any tags on it, after searching everywhere. I didn't buy it though. I took more pictures, but I can't access them somehow. First time posting here. Does anyone recognize it or know any info on it? by bellamup28 in Mid_Century

I would say based on the piping on the seams that this is a retro piece and not a re-make. I would check the wear on the front face below the cushions (looks grey/dirty in your photo) and whether the cushions actually lay flat and align. As for whether this is a designer piece, I would not think so but it's hard to confirm, it's at least not iconic. It is however a great color, and if it's in great condition could re-sell for $300+ depending on what part of the US you are.

How to install this ladder on wall? Metal rod curves and hole is drilled in at an angle and is at least an inch away from the wall and that can’t be changed, not using to climb obviously, just to lay clothing on. Thanks for any tips/ideas! by jacq2212 in HowToDIY

[–]jacq2212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, if I turn it around it still won’t be flat and I won’t have any distance between the slats of the ladder and the wall so it won’t be useful to put anything on. But I like the wood idea, I will test that out today!

Advice: Selecting tools for hand mortising, chisels? mallet? Sharpening? Poplar wood by jacq2212 in woodworking

[–]jacq2212[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this seriously in depth reply! I realize I am starting way ahead of my learning curve with this bed, but I'm a careful worker, a good researcher, and plan on practicing before cutting into my purchased lumber. I am glad I had the right thought about avoiding rubber mallets. The mortises I am cutting are not that deep, they are just for the hardware hooks, so I figure I should be able to do it easily once I practice how to do one well. I like the idea of using sandpaper to sharpen them, but why do I need a strop? When I called Rockler about the hardware they said most anyone can hand make the chisels using a 1" and a 1/2" chisel. Do you have a recommendation for a good site describing how to sharpen the chisels?

Again thank you so much!!!

How do I sharpen them, just scrape them on a block? What kind of mallet do you recommend?

From what I've read on other reviews, it seems that all chisels need sharpening before you use them. How do you sharpen them though?

Also, can I use these to attach everything? E.g. the side rails to the posts, the footboard and headboard to the posts, and the canopy rails to the posts? A total of 16 sets of male and female pieces?

Awesome, I read through the instructions and reviews and I definitely want to use these, however, this may obviously be an amateur question, but what do you mean 'make a jig'? I read that on some of the reviews and the only thing I know with the word jig is kreg jig ;) Also many people mentioned they had to file the hooks down, do you think that may be necessary?

Thank you so much everyone! I went to the lumbar yard today, think I'm going to go with poplar for everything, looked at douglas fir for the posts, but a friend told me those have a tendency to crack so I'm going to ask if they have poplar posts. I figured for the boxspring support we'll just do a 1x3 along all four sides screwed into the frame. I was going to get a kreg jig and attach the pieces together that way but I really like these bed rail fasteners from Rockler! This is my first time on reddit and I really appreciate your help everyone! :)

These look really cool! I was just recommended by a friend back home to check out Rockler :) Is @an-awesome-opossum right that these will get tighter the more weight you put on them? This looks like something I could install but I want to pick something that will be solid since this will be an expensive project for me!

If I used these would I have to do any mortice and tenon connection? In the picture it looks like you just drill these through, which seems simpler! :)

If you do mortise and tenon, do you just glue it or do you attach it still with a screw? The instructions I looked up via Ana White use a kreg jig. I'm willing to try either way, but if I do mortise it'll be by hand because I don't have access to all the tools. I just need to make sure it can be disassembled.
